I was woken up early in the morning. I changed, brushed my teeth and walked out of the house with Grayem. He had already picked out a target and we were going to ambush them on their daily walk. They were older then Grayem's usual kills, but he wanted to started out easy for me.
There was a path near the old town that we walked on, leaves littered the ground in a colourful array. He had his hands in his pockets and stared at the ground. I walked beside him silently, enjoying the quiet and peace. A cold breeze blew and I shivered.
"Cold?" He asked.
"Yep."
"Here," he took off his trench coat and handed it to me. I didn't put it on. "I don't get cold. It would be better if you were warm."
I nodded and put it on. It was too big for me and I snuggled into the warmth it held in it.
"Thanks," I said awkwardly.
"No problem."
We walked on for another fifteen minutes before we spoke again.
"This is nice," he said awkwardly.
"Yeah, it's lovely out here. Peaceful too."
Up ahead I could see someone approaching and I nudged Grayem and nodded towards the newcomer. He nodded. We continued walking and when we were close enough to the man Grayem attacked him. Grayem swung his fist at the man's face and then kicked his knees, bringing the man to the ground. Grayem kicked the man in the nose. The man groaned on the ground.
"Go ahead," Grayem told me. "Finish him."
I took out my hammer and got ready to bash the man's head in. I hesitated looking at the scared man. His eyes watered and his mouth quivered and he whimpered. But he didn't move. I closed my eyes and brought the hammer down on his head. Eyes still closed I backed away, leaving my hammer where it was. I covered my eyes and breathed deeply.
I heard Grayem shift then my hands were being taken away from my face.
Grayem stood in front of me, holding my hands in his. I shifted my gaze to the man. He was now a dried up corpse with a broken head.
I collected my hammer and straightened up.
"What now?" I asked him.
"You really did it," he said.
"Yeah..."
"I didn't think you actually would. I'm impressed."
"So what do we do now?"
"How about a trip to the city?"
