Grayem let me keep wearing his coat into the city. He also changed his shirt to a pale blue one and put shoes on. Then he neatened up his hair a bit. He took his hands out of his pockets when he walked and when we finally walked into I couldn't help but laugh at him as he tried to smile at a stranger.
"Shut it," he snapped. "This is hard for me to do."
"What?" I asked, still laughing. "Comb you'r hair? Wear shoes?"
"Ha ha, very funny," he groaned and walked ahead of me.
I wiped the tears from my eyes and caught up to him. "would you feel better if I apologised."
"No."
"Well I'm still going to. I'm sorry for hurting you'r feelings."
"Good."
We neared a candy store and I let out a small squeal and pointed at it, jumping up and down.
"Candy! Candy! Candy!" I told him.
He sighed.
*****~~~~~*****-----*****~~~~~*****
I didn't know how he had so much money, I thought it wasn't much (because of his house), but when we left the candy store I had two bags full of candy. A huge smile was plastered on my face and my eyes sparkled with happiness.
"Food?" I asked him.
"Why don't you just eat your candy?" He asked.
"Because I want a meal..."
He didn't respond.
"I see a fast food joint up ahead..."
He sighed.
"Yay," I whisper cheered to myself.
*****~~~~~*****-----*****~~~~~*****
I had spilled ketchup on my top. But the food was still good.
"You still hungry?" Grayem asked me.
"My tummy is no longer making the rumblings. Except the rumblings that can only be cured by a dessert...?"
"How about cake? You like cake? I like cake..."
"I like cake."
He nodded.
*****~~~~~*****-----*****~~~~~*****
The cake was good. Really good. It was homemade and warm and soft. As we walked out into the sunshine there was a kid with an ice-cream sitting on a bench. It made me stop smiling and laughing.
"For some reason that reminds me off Nicandro," I mumbled.
"Wait," Grayem said, looking at the kid. "Nicandro Smith?"
"Yeah."
He clenched and unclenched his fists. "And that makes you sad?"
"Mhmm."
He nodded.
Grayem walked up to the kid and crouched in front of him. They talked for a moment before Grayem grabbed the ice-cream from his hands and turned back to me smiling. He handed it over.
"We should probably start running now," he whispered in my ear, looking at something behind my back.
I nodded and he grabbed my hand and we started running back the way we had come into the city. It took us a little while, but we made it back to the forest and we hid as a cop car passed us by. I looked at Grayem and smiled.
"Thanks," I lifted the ice-cream.
He nodded. "Lets head back now."
"Yeah..."
"Is Nicandro Smith the one you want to bring back?" He asked me.
"Yeah, he is."
"So you're from Chrystal's Cave island. Now I don't know if I can trust you..."
"Then don't," I shrugged. "I am paying you back."
He hesitated before he spoke. "I know what I want in return. As a definite. We spoke of it a little before but now I'm sure."
"And what is it that you want, Grayem?" I asked a bit scared.
"You."
I gave him a look.
His eyes widened and he started waving his hands as he blushed. "No no no no no no no. Not in a creepy way! In a different way!"
I gave him another look.
"I just really like being around you..." Grayem mumbled looking at the ground.
I smiled and looked at the ground, not wanting to meet his eyes. I was a sucker for eyes.
"It's not just you! Nicandro and I are kinda enemies so if I took you from him he would be super mad. Nad I would get to spend time with you. You have a great personality and your hair, and your eyes and smile and freckles and nose and mouth and..."
We stayed silent for the rest of the trip back. When we got back I was exhausted so I went straight to Grayem's room, dropping the bags on the floors I got myself tucked under the blankets and closed my eyes.
