Victor's Blues

Victor watched the ongoings of the annual Morgan Christmas Gala with a dull stare, wanting nothing more than to be anywhere but here. It was only a little past nine and he promised his mother he'd make an appearance just to appease her high-class, aristocratic friends. They only wanted to bask in the Morgan fame and show off their own wealth. It made him sick inside.

He sighed as he stood, heading outside where the cold night air greeted him. With the inane party behind him, Victor found himself wandering along the garden where a pale moonlight shone down upon the small patch. It was quieter here and he found a small bench where one of his mother's cherub sculptures stood.

Alone, his thoughts wandered and they strayed to a pretty little blonde who had a smile full of sunshine with emeralds in her eyes. Lately, that's who he couldn't stop thinking about. It was as if she engrained herself in his mind and chained his soul to hers. He was falling and he couldn't stop. The area where his heart was felt strange. He rubbed his chest, frowning.

"Vic?" A familiar voice called out, pulling him out of his thoughts. It was Gabriel, in all his orange glory. "There you are! Damn dude, I've been looking everywhere for you! Why didn't you answer your phone?"

He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck as Gabriel sank down in the space next to him. "Sorry man, this party is just a bore and I got a bit sidetracked. Just...kind of wanted to be alone with my thoughts, think a bit without my mother breathing down my neck."

"Everything okay? You know you can talk to me, right?" Gabriel said, placing a hand on his shoulder.

Victor swallowed thickly, looking down at his hands but not actually seeing them. No, all he could see these days were those beautiful, green eyes that invaded his dreams and every inch of his life.

"I," He began, unsure how to word what he was feeling. "I can't connect with her like you guys do. And I'm afraid that...well, I'm afraid that eventually she'll pick one of you guys over me or someone else will sweep her off her feet and take her away forever." Tears pricked his eyes and he wiped them away, feeling all of a sudden silly and foolish.

"Vic, man. She loves both of us. Can't you see that?" Gabriel said, gripping his shoulders. He pointed a finger at him, much like Sean did when he got into one of his rants. "She loves you, just like how she loves me and those other meatheads we call brothers. Sang has enough love for all of us and I thank my lucky stars that it's you guys and not anybody else. So cut with the girly shit and let's go get her."

Victor couldn't help but smile and he laughed as Gabriel slung an arm around his shoulders. That was such a Gabriel thing to say and though his worries didn't quite go away, he felt as if a burden had been lifted from his shoulders. Maybe, just maybe things would turn out okay after all.
