"So, who is it?" Steve asks, pulling her from her mind and making her shake her head, "Who's the lucky guy?"
Oh, God... He just asked that... He just asked that. He wants to know who it is... Should I tell him? Should I tell him? Lie? Or tell him the truth, that I'm here for him and that I'm going to be talking to him more? Oh no... What if he can already tell that I'm lying... Shit... He's going to be so pissed... Nick's gonna get pissed... What if Tony forgot what to do if they find out. What if Tony doesn't kiss me when he thinks he needs to... What if... What if... Steve waves at her to bring her from her thoughts again. They're close to the elevator now and Steve presses the button to call it, before the doors open and they get on the bell dings and she whispers, "Tony."
"Who?" He hadn't heard her, he didn't understand what she said was the name of the man she's engaged to.
"I..." She hesitates, "I said Tony."
His eyes widen and he tilts his head, "So you're engaged to Tony... Pepper's really gonna like this one..."
"No... No, no, no. She knows, they've been broken up for a long time now, they just haven't told any of you about it." She's quick to explain that to him as the doors close and they go up to Tony's floor. The plan was to tell Tony when someone asks about who she's marrying, especially since she's supposed to tell them that she's engaged to him.
"So... She knows and she was okay with it?" Steve asks, still confused. "Huh... Okay."
She smiles and lets a sigh of relief out when the bell dings signaling the elevator opening. Steve holds the door open and lets her get off first and they both smile when they hear Tony coming.
