In a state of total devastation and shock, I cautiously stand up, look away from the nurse, and stare down at the ground. Slowly making my way out of the assigned room, I anxiously hold the plastic doctor's cup in my hand as I silently walk down the hallway. Turning left, I almost knock over a little girl in the process from not paying attention to where I'm walking. I can't even apologize to her as I finally turn right and spot the woman's bathroom. Stepping carefully inside, I letout a deep nervous breath as I flip on the light. Shutting the door behind me, is when I stare over at the toilet and cannot believe I actually put myself into this kind of situation. I'm not like this. This wasn't supposed to happen.
Not to me.
I cautiously step further inside the bathroom as I walk to the sink and place the cup down onto the counter. I turn on the faccet and cup cold water in my hands, splashing it against my face to wake me up from this nightmare. But sadly, it's just a cruel reality of my life.
I stare at my reflection in the mirror for a while before looking over to the cubicle window where I'm supposed to put the cup after I'm done giving a sample of my urine for the pregnancy test. But as I firmly take it in my hand and stare down at it as the label reads 'Pregnancy test', is when I mentally go out of my mind and get the sudden urge to crawl into a corner on the floor.
Not believing that I'm actually and seriously doing this, is when I hold my breath, and I put the empty cup into the window. I rush out of the bathroom as fast as I can, realizing another girl is standing outside as I wipe a tear from the side of my eye and I nearly run down the other hallway that takes me to the other door that leads me to the waiting room.
"Mom," I immediately call out to her, noticing she's sitting in a chair along with a few other parents and children as she stares up and looks around in the wrong direction. "Mom!" I exclaim, as she quickly turns her head and locks eyes with me.
"Isabella, are you finished already?" She questions me as I wave her over to where I'm anxiously and silently standing near the check in counter. I glance to the lady and she cautiously stares at me as I quickly look away and avoid eye contact.
"Hurry up, please," I softly rush out as she strides over to me and fixes her purse strap higher onto her shoulder. "I'm done. I'm perfect. Everything was fine."
"Why have you come through the wrong way though?" She asks me, as I bite my lip. "The room was in the other direction, sweetheart."
"I'm finished," I snap, shaking my head and turning around, rushing out of the doorway as my mother follows behind me. I open the door to the outside as the warm air gusts against my skin, drying my cheek as I begin to head towards my car.
"So soon? Have you completed the form the nurse gave to you? Have you given the doctor a pee sample?" She suddenly speaks up from beside me as I sigh.
"Yeah mom. The test said I don't have a UTI. I'm perfectly fine," I cautiously state, nervously catching my breath as I take the keys out of my purse and I unlock the doors. Hopping inside, I start up the engine as my mom sits in the passenger seat and I can feel her eyes staring at me.
"Are you sweating, sweetheart? Your face is beat red. Are you sick?" She loudly demands as I suddenly glares at her, deep into her eyes.
"Just leave me alone, mother!" I shout at her, her eyes going wide as my jaw drops, and I literally cannot breathe. I can't believe I just yelled at her like that. I don't know what has gotten into me lately! "Oh my gosh," I carefully whisper as she looks away. "I am so sorry..."
