Phoenix

The wind howled around me causing the trees to whisper an eerie song. The woods were alive with excitement, something amazing was happening and everything wanted to be a part of it. The trees moved with the winds swaying to the tune of the wild. My eyes turned to see what the disturbance was. The sun glinted causing a sudden blindness. I squinted to adjust my eyes...

"Ms. Wolfe!" The voice was far away slowly bringing me back from the dream I was having. I tried to drift back off into the far away land. "Ms. Wolfe!!" The voice commanded my attention even louder. My eyes opened and I groaned at the sudden intrusion of light. The face of my math teacher Mr. Hope stared down on me, his eyes definitely not reflecting the hope I'd get out of class without detention. Before he could say anything however, the door burst open revealing the principal.

"Ms. Wolfe, please come with me." She said before turning on her heel. Grabbing my bag I flashed a triumphant grin toward Mr. Hope before turning out the door. I trailed behind her until we made it to the office and I plopped down into the chair behind her desk. Now a normal student would be ridiculed for even thinking to sit in the principal's chair, but not when the principal was part of your pack, and you were the Alpha.

Ah yes, I forget, my name is Phoenix and I'm a werewolf. Yes, the I-can-turn-into-a-wolf-on-command werewolf. Not that there are any other kinds, but I just wanted to be clear. I'm the Alpha of all packs, but that's a lot to get into right now. All you need to know is I'm a very powerful wolf. You may be wondering why I'm sitting in class in High School if I'm such a powerful wolf, well that's simple. I'm searching for my mate. I've been looking for her for over two hundred years, but still haven't found her. Yes, I am gay, get over it. Girls love girls.

"Phoenix you're lucky I felt you fall asleep in the mind link, you can't keep getting in trouble if you want to stay in this school." Rolling my eyes I replied, "I know I know, but it's so boring. I learned this all three hundred years ago, Cennady." She was a human mated to another wolf in the pack. Even though she was a human, she was very much part of the pack.

"Look if you want to find your mate, you need to give the school a chance." Before I could reply, The bell rang and I grabbed my bag again. Apollo - another pack member - waited for me by the door. I could feel the annoyance from Cennady as I walked out the door avoiding listening to what she was saying.

"How goes it?" I asked, walking out the office.

"It is fine I guess. I never found the point to school, however." I nodded in agreement and we walked down the hall, getting quite a few glances as we passed. Apollo was six feet tall, and quite well built as were all the males in the pack. Though girls fell to his feet, he took no glance as his mate, Evelyn was waiting for him back home.

Luckily lunch was next and Apollo and I had gone to sit down outside on the grass. I laid down and closed my eyes feeling nature around me as hundreds of others walked past. I felt the presence of my other pack mates as they began to crowd around and sit in a circle around us. Opening my eyes, I felt more centered as I looked around to the few members of my pack that were with me.

Apollo sat beside me; Danyon with Rochella; and Jax with Axel.

"Tonight the moon is full." Danyon spoke as he pulled out a huge beef sandwich from his backpack. Nodding, I had hoped to find my mate before this full moon, but fate still evaded me. Wolves mated for life. With werewolves we found one human or werewolf to spend the rest of our lives with.

"We will hunt and run tonight, for now, let us enjoy the afternoon." Suddenly I rose to attention, my eyes scanning the perimeter of the campus. And then I saw her. My mate.

She was new, that was for sure because I had never seen her at school before. She was laughing with a few other people who seemed to be good friends of hers. Her hair was a blonde reaching to the middle of her back; her smile brightened the campus like the sun. I could see her bright blue eyes even from this far away.

*PHOENIX!* I heard in my mind causing me to wince. I looked to Apollo.

"Whatttttt. Why would you do that." I said rubbing my temple. Everyone in the pack was connected through a mind link which meant if someone wanted to say something everyone heard it...unfortunately. It worked over any distance and even when we were in human form.

"We were talking to you, but it seemed more like a brick wall. What's going on?"

"Sorry, I didn't mean to not listen." Apollo just nodded before going back to rambling on about nothing. My eyes continued to drift over to the girl sitting with her friends. You're being weird, Phoenix. I thought to myself unable to think of anything else.

"Phoenix. Are you even listening to me?" Apollo's voice cut through my thoughts again. If he kept doing that I might just strangle him.

"Uh sorry." I said absently. His gaze followed mine. "Ah, I see now." He said smugly.

"Go to her Alpha. She is your mate. Go." He said urging me along. That was all I needed to hear before getting up and walking toward her.
