PROLOGUE
He's been sleeping for a while now. My precious one. It was tough taking good care of him alone. But because of Mom and Dad, and Miguel's support, I was able to raise him well. I never knew that I'd come to this point, giving birth at the age of 20 and become a single mom. Oh well, mistakes are their to learn.
"Kersey..." I whispered to my son's ear as I plant a kiss on his forehead. "We're here, baby. Wake up." Slowly, he opened up his eyes. Everytime I see those eyes, it really reminds of someone I used to know.
"On behalf of China Airlines and the entire crew, I’d like to thank you for joining us on this trip and we are looking forward to seeing you on board again in the near future. Have a nice day!" announced the flight attendant. Finally, we're back. Safe and sound.
I grabbed my child's walker from the upper compartment and placed Kersey there. It feels good to be back home after two years straight of not having vacation here. Yeah, you heard it right. I gave birth to Kersey in US. And this is the first time, I've brought him home. Mom and Dad would be really happy when they see their grandchild again.
"Say bye bye, Kersey." My son, being obedient but unable to say it, bid the flight attendant good bye.
"Bye bye, baby boy." she pinched him on the cheek. I smiled back at the flight attendant and exited the plane.
We're almost there to see them, Mom and Dad. From afar, I saw them waving at us. It's obvious in their faces that they are so excited to embrace, not me...but their grandchild. Now that, Kersey's here, their attention will be drawn towards him. Not to me anymore. Uhh, they'll love him more than me. Just kidding! My parents had been fair to me ever since. Though I was a disappointment, they never gave up on me.
"Xyra! Anak!" ayan na. Sinalubong ako ng yakap ni Mama. Hinalikan ko siya sa pisngi. Magsasalita na sana ako nung tinalikuran nya ako't kinarga na lang si Kersey. Sabi na eh.
"Pa!" niyakap ko si Papa.
"Kamusta ang byahe anak?" tanong ni Daddy.
"Maayos naman, Pa." sagot ko. Narinig ko na lang ang iyak ni Kersey. Pinapatahan siya ni Mama.
