Nikki, Taylor and I all gathered along with the rest of the queue and waited for our teacher that was taking us into town. "Oh my gosh Wish, don't look now, but Jake is looking over at you." Nikki whispered to me.
I laughed and started twirling my hair around my finger. I was starting to think it was a bad idea to possibly meet up with him sometime during the day. Calm down Wish, it wouldn't be for long anyways, you'll be with Nikki and Taylor and he'll be with his friends.
Finally, our teacher came out, it turned out to be our librarian, Ms. Jones. She quickly called us to attention "Okay ladies and gentlemen! We're going into town and we are going to meet up at 9 o'clock infront of the church in the center of town. Everyone got that? Okay! Let's head into town."
Taylor linked arms with me, while I linked arms with Nikki as we started walking with the group. While walking I heard Jake with some friends making stupid jokes and flirting with other girls. See Wish? You aren't special. He's flirting with other girls too. I thought to myself. I shook my head when Taylor nudged me and said "You know you've been humming again."
I sighed. I hummed when I talked to myself in my head and when I got nervous. Usually I would also start going through dance moves but my arms were hooked through my friends. "Sorry," I mumbled, "Just thinking. Stupid things. Nothing important." She and Nikki shared a look across me and then gave me the look saying the didn't believe but weren't going to push it now.
Thankfully, just then we got to the town and the three of us turned and walked towards the street which was lined with shops on either side. We slowly worked down one side weaving in and out of stores. I got a few pairs of jeans and more sweatshirts. We stopped inside the only Starbucks in town then worked down the opposite side, heading towards the sweets shop.
Nikki got extremely excited and started skipping down the streets singing "I'm going to get my yummy nummy yummy sweets!" Taylor and I started giggling and joined her in skipping. We got into the shop which was crowded with students trying to get candy and the sugary warmth from the shop. I elbowed through the crowd to the back of the shop where they kept the sour sweets.
I stood there debating on what to get when I felt someone come up and stand beside me. I looked over and my heart stopped. Jake was standing next to me. He saw me peeking over and started chuckling. "Hey," he said "What do you think out of all of these are the best sour candies?"
I laughed and said "Truthfully? All of them. I've had every single piece of sour candy in here at least 10 times and it's always a problem for me to choose what to get." Way to go Wish, you're rambling. About candy. I mentally facepalmed myself. Luckily Jake just laughed at me and said "Well then, I'll just have to get a little bit of everything."
He grabbed a bag that was next to my hand and his fingers brushed mine just ever so quickly. Even in the small millisecond, I felt electricty shoot up my arm. I bit my lip knowing that it was probably nothing, just a simple shock, happens to everyone. I opened my own bag and started adding a large amount of sour gummy worms. Jake was slowly adding small amounts of the sour candies to his bag. Then out of no where he asked me "So why do you like sour candy? Not many people do."
I smiled over at him and said "It reminds me of my grandparents. They met at a candyshop where my grandpa worked. Every Saturday he would leave a small bag of candy, mainly sours because those were my grandmother's favorite, and a little note. What about you?"
He looked over at me and laughed quietly. "My mom." he said simply. I waited a moment and then he continued "She always loved candy. When my brother and I were little she would always go out of her way to get us candy, even if we had gotten some the day before."
I laughed and looked over at him. I finished filling up my bag at the same time he did. "To the line?" I asked him. "After you m'lady." He said while gesturing for me to go ahead. I smiled and walked towards the end of the line.
When we finally reached it, we stood there for a moment or two until Jake asked me "So Wish, what are you and your cohorts going to be doing after here?" I laughed at him and said "Nikki and Taylor, cohorts? You're funny. No, well we were planning on going to the movies. We haven't seen anything lately so we thought it'd be fun to catch up those."
"Sounds fun, mind if a couple of friends and I join you guys?" he asked. I looked over at him and smiled then went up and payed for my bag of candy. He went after me then came to where I saw standing. "You didn't answer my question." Jake said.
"Well I'm fine with you guys joining us, now I just have to find my 'cohorts' as you called them, as you find your henchmen." I joked. Just then Nikki and Taylor appeared out of nowhere with two guys, chatting it up. "Mike! Jordan! Where'd you guys go?" said Jake to the two boys standing infront of us.
"Well, after you left us to find her" nodding to me, I'm guessing it was Mike, "we ran into these two ladies here who were watching you two from afar." Taylor slapped him and said "Hey! You wouldn't have run into us had you not been watching as well!"
Nikki and the other guy, Jordan started laughing at the other two bickering. Jake caught my eye and smiled, thinking the same thing as I. At least I won't have to worry about having to find them guys for any dances that may come up now.
Our now large group left and walked towards the movie theather debating whether we should watch an action or something else. We ended up watching The Avengers since it seemed like movie that everyone wanted to see. By the time we got out of the movie I checked the time and it was already 8:50 p.m.
"Holy Shit! Fuck! We gotta get to the church! And it's all the way across town! Shit, shit, SHIT!" I shouted as I started sprinting in the direction of the church. Soon the whole group caught up to me and Jordan shouted at me "Why are you flipping out so much?"
I turned my head to look at him while still running and shouted back "Did you see the time?! We've only got...... Five minutes to get to the church!" Jake and Mike said at the same time "Oh shit! Hurry!" Our group was the last to arrive panting out of breath. The group then started walking towards the school.
I can't believe it, I thought to myself as we were walking back to the school. I noticed Drew and Rose walking together cuddling and close, which almost made me gag, but I thought back to the movies and the candy. This whole day I didn't even think about Drew and Rose. All because of my friends.
And Jake.
