Jake and I walked back to the band room hand in hand. When we got back he pulled me in close for another kiss. It was quick but it still gave me butterflies. Hell, just Jake gave me butterflies. Careful Wish, I told myself, He may just be playing around with you. He didn't exactly ask you out yet. Jake walked over to the piano and started to play the beginning notes to Wanted again. I slid down next to him and rested my head on his shoulder. He started singing to me as I closed my eyes.
"Wish.. Wish wake up." Jake nudged me as my eyes fluttered open. "Huh? How long was I asleep?" I mumbled, looking up at him. "About an hour. Come on. We've got to get down with dinner." Dinner! The dance annoucement might be tonight! I need to find out if it's really going to happen!
I jumped up immeaditely and almost raced out of the band room, only to be stopped by Jake grabbing my hand. He was looking at me funny and asked "What's the rush?" I felt myself starting to blush as I quietly responded "Oh, nothing. I think there's gonna be an annoucement tonight or something."
He stood up securing my hand in his and said "Then what're we waiting for?" We headed out of the band room down the hall to the stairs that headed towards the main hall. We stepped into the dinner room to be greeted by Nikki, Jordan, Taylor, and Mike. They all looked shocked as they saw our enterwined hands but we simply ignored them and walked to our seats. "So, what's this 'annoucement' about anyways?" I looked to Taylor who shook her head.
"Nothing important really. You'll know if we either start flipping out or.... Really if we just start flipping out." Mike, Jake, and Jordan looked at the three of us funny but went along with it. Food was served before anyone said anything. We ate in an aticipated silence, hoping for Madame Stockwright to stand up. She didn't at 6:55. Nor did she at 7:05. Or at 7:15. "Come on come on" Taylor muttered under her breath.
"What is up with you guys?" Jordan asked, squeezing Nikki's clenched hand. Just before Nikki could respond, finally, Madame Stockwright stood up. "Yes!" the three of us whisper shouted. Madame cleared her throat and said "So it seems as if we have another rumor going around. No, not of more boys joining the school, or it becoming a full co-ed school, but of something more simple. A dance." Nikki, Taylor, and I all put our hands out, with two fingers making a v, to become an awkward star. This was our sign that we were flipping out but couldn't say anything aloud.
"What are you guys doing?" Mike asked, looking at our hands. "Shh!" escaped the rest of our lips as Madame opened her mouth again. "Yes this is true, and it will be happening. A week before Winter break starts, we will be having a semi formal dance. You are allowed to come alone, but I hope to see many groups together and having fun." She looked around the hall see all the eager and frightened faces. "You are now dismissed for bed. Good night ladies and gentlemen!"

*two weeks later*
Nikki, Taylor, and I were all walking back from a pleasantly amusing dinner, entertainment coming in the form of Jordan, Mike, and Jake. Flinging peas, mashed potatoes up the nose, and walus teeth with baby carrots definitely can improve a girls mood, espically if these acts are preformed by an adorably cute guy.
Nikki and Taylor were chatting on about Mike and Jordan, and how they had yet to ask them to the dance. Each knew they were going to be asked because Jordan had asked Taylor about Nikki, and Mike had asked Nikki about Taylor. I had not idea if Jake was going to ask me.
For all I knew, he would come up to me at the end of tomorrow, say he was playing me just like Drew and walk away with him arm around Miranda. I tried not to think like that, but some thoughts are harder to block out than others.
I went into the bathroom, plugging in my phone and blasting music to cover up their talk about dates, knowing it would trigger worse thoughts. That was one problem with working on being a writer, I thought to myself as I extracted my facewash from a drawer, your imagination gets the better of you.
'Part of Your World' from The Little Mermaid started playing as I gently lapped warm water onto my face. With my eyes tight I felt around for my face wash as the lyrics floated in the air.
"Flippin' your fins, you don't get too far
Legs are required for jumping, dancing
Strolling along down a - what's that word again?
Street
Up where they walk, up where they run
Up where they stay all day in the sun
Wanderin' free - wish I could be
Part of that world"
I splashed more water onto my face, to rinse off the vanilla smelling wash, just as the song ended. I patted my face dry and noticed the silence coming from where Nikki and Taylor were to be found, I figured they fell asleep. I shrugged grabbing my phone and going to my bed.
Just before I could fall asleep, my phone dinged, signalling a text.
From Jake.
Jake: Hey lovee, I wanted to wish you goodnight, and I was wondering if you would join me tomorrow in the band room? I need to talk to you...
I responded quickly, excited.
To Jake: Sure thing, I would love to :] night xx
With that small excitment bubbling in my stomach, I fell asleep with a smile on my face and sugarplums dancing in my head.
