Seraphina watched as Kendra walked out of the MedBay and up to Carter. She walked past them, giving them privacy, to go talk to Professor Boardman. She smiled at him warmly, like she would do with any patient. It was her coping mechanism, no matter how bad the wound or how close she was to the officer wounded, she would smile the same, automatic smile. Her smiles were always warm though, everyone told her so.
"How are you feeling?" She asked, checking the screen showing his vitals.
"As... good as I can be right now, I suppose." He strained out. Seraphina walked over to his side. He was old, not supremely old, but still old. Besides, she reasoned with herself, today was his death day, right? But she couldn't just let him die. She had to do something.
"Gideon?" She called for the AI.
"Yes, Ms. Allen? Or do you prefer Ms. West?" The AI responded.
"Either is fine, really." Seraphina told her kindly. She sighed. "What should I do, Gideon?"
"Today is the Professor's death date, and while I do not think keeping him alive would be a drastic change to this time period, it could have a ripple effect on the timeline as a whole. I would recommend caution. But really," The AI continued wisely, "it is for Professor Boardman to decide, is it not?" Seraphina nodded and smiled.
"Yes, you're right. Thank you, Gideon." She thanked the AI.
"You're most welcome, Ms. Allen."
"Don't do it." Seraphina looked down at the old man in front of her. "If what she says is true, then you shouldn't save me." Professor Boardman told her. "I've lived my life. I wouldn't mind if it ended now." Seraphina nodded and patted his arm. She turned around and headed to the cargo bay to find Sara and Leonard. When she was walking down the stairs she saw a flash of light. When she got down there she saw that Ray's blaster had gone off on accident while he was making repairs. She sat down on a container near Sara.
"Watch it!" Mick shouted angrily.
"Sorry." Ray apologized, tensely watching Mick. "Sorry." He sighed. "What's the point of us even giving this a second thought." Leonard, Sara, and Seraphina looked over at him while Mick focused on his heat gun. "Rip has already seen the future. He knows exactly what's in store for each of us. Might as well have stayed dead, cause the world doesn't need any of us." He looked at Sara. "You're just a lost assassin." He looked at Seraphina. "You're just the Flash's unknown sidekick." He looked at Leonard and Mick. "And you're just a pair of good-for-nothing criminals."
"I can live with that." Mick responded. Ray sighed.
"Well, I can't. Can't live with somebody putting a cap on my destiny. Spent my whole life working to be something greater by becoming something smaller. Then some guy comes along and tells me that being the Atom is as insignificant as an actual atom." Sara shook her head.
"That's not what he said." She stood up. "Rip said that in HIS future we're nobodies, but this mission is about changing the future." She smiled. "I mean, if we have the power to change the world, don't you think we have the power to change our own fate?"
"For better or for worse." Leonard responded, his signature smirk back on his face.
"That's a very good point." Ray told Sara. Seraphina stood up, she heard a flatline sound coming from the MedBay. She put her head in her hands and gave a shaky sigh. She sat down again, this time next to Leonard.
"He's gone." She informed them, remorse filling her.
"It's not your fault, you know." She heard Leonard say from behind her. She shook her head, turning to look at him.
"That's the thing. It is my fault." Everyone gave her a questioning look and she sighed. "I... I could have saved him. His wound wasn't much compared to my healing abilities but... he told me not to, and I listened to him." She put her head in her hands again. "I should have saved him."
"Listen, sweetheart." Leonard drawled from behind her. "The man was old, it was his time. He made his decision and you respected it. It isn't your fault." He reassured her. Seraphina looked back at him and smiled. Sara nodded, putting a hand on her shoulder.
"Like Leonard said, he told you not to and you didn't. It was what he wanted." She told her.
"Thank you, guys."
...
The group walked into the control room. Rip was talking to Kendra and Carter.
"Chronos, even Vandal, won't be the only enemy we face." Rip looked over at them as they walked in. "Very often, it will be time itself."
"Whether it wants to happen or not, we're going to change time, erase Savage's future, and earn our rightful place in history." Ray said to Rip, everyone heading over to their seats.
"Doctor Palmer is correct. We may not be legends in your time, Captain, but we are going to decide our own fates." Professor Stein told Rip. Rip nodded at him.
"I don't give a damn about being a legend," Carter said, "as long as we end Savage once and for all."
"I can get down with that." Jax agreed.
"You guys are most definitely going to get injured. I'll be here to heal you if you do." Seraphina giggled. "Also, you guys have a lot of baggage and I am a psychiatrist. I'm in."
"And our malcontents?" Stein asked, everyone turning to look at Leonard and Mick.
"I like killing people." Mick responded.
"We're in." Leonard told the rest of the group, smiling at Seraphina. She blushed slightly and smiled back. "For now." The smile turned into a smirk and Seraphina rolled her eyes. Sara stepped forwards.
"So how do we find this guy?" She asked. Rip sat down in his seat.
"Professor Boardman had a theory about that." He pulled down the safety bar. "I've already had Gideon plot a course."
