BEEP BEEP BEEP! “Bloody alarm clock” I groaned as my alarm clock went off, rudely waking me up. I blindly reach over to my bedside table to try and turn it off. After 3 failed attempts I finally managed to turn it off. I look up over to the bed next to mine and I notice it’s empty.  She must have gone for a walk or something. It’s been a little over a week on my best friend Mae’s and I gap year. We have decided to come to Europe and explore the countries, but first we stopped off in England and we have been here for 4 days. We thought about going to London but decided to go to Wolverhampton for a few days. I don’t know why but we did.

I get up out of my bed and walk over to the kitchen. We have saved up a lot of money so we were able to afford a nice hotel. I walk over to the fridge and notice a note on it;

To Anna

I've decided to go for a walk. Maybe later we could meet up at Gloria Jeans for some breakfast? See you soon!

-Mae

Typical. She was always a morning person. She likes to get up early and go explore and run around whereas I just want to sleep and relax. We are pretty different when it comes to most things like music, fashion or routines but somehow, we make it work. I move over to the bathroom and begin brushing my teeth. After I have finished brushing my teeth and doing my hair, I get a text from Mae.

To: Little fairy:

Hey, are you ready? I’m almost at GJ.

To: Starfish:

Yea, im ready. Ill see you soon. ORDR ME A MUFFIN AND ICED CHOCOLATE!

To: Little fairy:

Chocolate chip or triple chocolate chip?

To: Starfish:

Surprise me! :)

After sending that last text, I put my phone away in my blue jeans pocket, grabbed my wallet and keys and headed out the door.

It’s a 5 minute walk to Gloria Jeans and the weather is a bit cold but mainly windy. It’s still cloudy and it has been since we first came here. I step through the front door of the café and immediately, the warm heat radiating from the coffees and warm treats envelops me and I sigh. It’s so warm and cosy! I continue walking until I see a frantic hand waving at me. Mae. I walk over to her and ask her to put her hand down.

“You’re embarrassing me” I say as I take a seat opposite her.

“Well, maybe if you'd have gotten here earlier I'd have saved you the embarrassment!” She exclaims, holding out my drink and muffin to me.

“Yes well you ... Argh!” I return, snatching them out of her hand. I then notice what she is wearing. Her hair is tied up in her usual loose bun, and she's sporting her favourite Radiohead shirt, army jacket, black jeans and coloured in converse. Grungy.

"Thanks," I mumble.

She just rolls her eyes and continues eating. I was wearing a black singlet underneath my black and white striped jumper. I also have a pair of black and white Vans on and some black denim jeans. My hair was down and wavy and I was wearing a black and white striped headband.

“You look like you belong in a cell.” She says laughing a bit as she took a sip from her coffee.

“I’m not exactly a fashion guru now am I?” I say throwing her an annoyed look.

“Definitely not!” She says, shaking her head in a disapproving manner while laughing.

I give her a death stare and she just giggles a bit before once again returning to her food. My stomach does a loud growl and Mae raises and eyebrow at me.
