It took a minute for the fierce nightmare of reality to kick in. I paced around my cell, wondering what would happen. I was scared. I thought that maybe if I talked to Jack I would be able to think straight, but I didn't know if he was still awake. I decided to wait for a while.
Looking back, I realize I should have talked to him, because I didn't get the chance to do so for the next few days. As I walked around my small, white room, I heard a faint click. Turning, I saw the door quietly slip open. A single guard walked in, but his weapon wasn't at the ready. Instead, it was strapped to his waist and leg. He gestured for me to follow him. Knowing what might happen if I didn't. He led me briskly down a hall the another room, this one a little bit larger than my cell. It looked almost like a psychologist's office.
There was a woman sitting at a desk in the corner. When we walked in, she looked up and smiled warmly. I didn't trust her. She stood and walked over to me.
"You must be Aaron! It's nice to meet you." I didn't respond. She put her hand on my shoulder and led me over to what seemed to be a medical bed, like the ones used by a doctor for a health exam. I sat down on the bed cautiously. She pulled a chair in front of me and sat down. She placed a small black box on her lap. I eyed it warily. She laughed quietly.
"I don't bite! And if you don't move, this will be over in a few minutes." I watched her flip open the box. My heart skipped a beat. The box contained a large pen, a pair of rubber gloves, and a small bottle. She slipped her hands into the gloves and picked up the pen. My eyes widened as I realized what the pen was for. I had seen it during a 4-H livestock meeting. I jumped up and ran to the door, only to find it was locked. The doctor lady stood and turned to me. Her smile had disappeared.
"Come over here. It won't hurt." When I continued to pull on the door handle she walked over to her desk and opened a drawer. She pulled out a syringe and looked it over. It was filled with a silvery liquid. I didn't want know what it did. She looked back at me.
"I guess we'll do this the hard way."
The hard way only lasted about five minutes.
She lunged towards me, trying to grab my arm, but I dodged her. I jumped up onto the doctors bed and scanned the room for an escape. Nothing. My heart was pounding. The doctor reached for my arm again, but I jumped down off the table and ran away from her. This repeated for what seemed like forever, but was probably only a few minutes.
She grabbed towards my right arm, so naturally, I bolted left. She was smart though. She caught my left arm and swiftly slid the needle into my skin. I suddenly felt drowsy. She let go of me and I fell to the floor. Before I faded into unconsciousness, I heard the door slam open. Weakly lifting my head, I saw a panicked guard in the doorway, not even seeming to notice the half-unconscious child laying on the floor. He leaned into the doorway and tried to catch his breath.
"They found another one." Then the darkness invaded.
