[Just a warning, I wrote this chapter very quickly so it's not very good! Enjoy anyways!]
I woke up to the sounds of people on the other side of the door. The muffled voices and footsteps neared, and sure enough, the door swung open to reveal two armed guards.
One grabbed me roughly by the arm, which was still sore. I bit my lip. I was pulled into the large room outside of the cells and was slightly surprised to see both Mark and Jack there too. I suppressed a smirk. Risky move scientists. Risky indeed.
I was lost in thoughts until I was once again pulled by my arm. I was led out of the room into the hallway. I shuddered, remembering the other times this had happened. I sensed the other guards and Holders following close behind. No one spoke.
After walking through an endless maze of halls, I found myself in an empty white room, similar to my cell but much larger. The guards' grip left my arm. A light click was heard as the door locked behind me. Looking behind me, I saw Mark and Jack, along with someone else.
The new person had bright green hair similar to Jack's, one green eye, one blue. I sensed something different about him, but I couldn't place it.
"He's not one of us." I jumped slightly at the voice echoing in my head. I knew it hadn't been any of the others because I was the only girl.
"Can you really not figure out who it is?" I thought for a second. I paled as I realized who was talking to me. Fyre.
"He isn't a Holder like you." I silently asked her what she meant, but I was more focused on studying the newcomer. I didn't rust him.
"I'll show you." My vision turned grey, and I felt my consciousness shoved to the back of my mind, a similar feeling as when Fyre had taken over at home. I felt myself gazing around the room. In place of Jack and Mark, stood their Demons Anti and Dark. Neither of them looked particularly happy, and I felt a dash of anger.
What caught me off guard was that the newcomer didn't appear as their Demon. My vision turned back to normal, snapping me out of my confusion, and I found myself in control again. I looked warily at the newcomer, the pieces falling into place.
The male was Jackson, the voice on the other side of the wall. I slowly walked over to the wall opposite of the door and sat down, leaning against the wall. Mark looked at me worriedly, as did Jack, but they didn't say anything so I ignored them. A few silent minutes passed before someone spoke up.
"So what sort of twisted test is this?" Mark asked bitterly. Jackson closed his eyes momentarily before glaring at the other male.
"They know all about your... Demons or whatever. I'm no one of you. They want to find what makes me go mad." He stated emotionlessly. Mark turned to him.
"Who ARE you? And if you aren't 'one of us', what are you?" Jackson didn't answer, so I took this as a chance to speak up.
"Jackson." I said, looking up. The other Holders looked at me, confused.
"How did you...?" Jackson started but trailed off. A look of sudden realization crossed his face.
"Ah. You must be Aaron." He sauntered over to me, an unreadable expression on his face. He stopped directly in front of me.
"Or Fyre. Same difference I guess." I looked at him warily, standing up from my spot on the floor to face him.
"How did you know that?" I growled, getting defensive for some reason. He smirked and raised an eyebrow.
"Why wouldn't I? She's an obnoxious jerk, it's impossible not to know her, really." A wave of uncontrollable anger swelled in my chest, and I once again felt myself get shoved to the back of my mind as Fyre took control.
"Obnoxious jerk?" She hissed. Jackson smiled and crossed his arms.
"Interesting. That was almost too easy." He stepped back. Flames danced over Fyre's hands, but they didn't burn her. Someone moved on the other side of the room. Fyre looked over Jackson's shoulder.
"Fyre." Jack spoke quietly. He took a step towards me, and Fyre smirked. Her hand moved to in front of her, flames burning in her palm.
"Just... let Aaron go. You can do that, right? Then everyone could be happy!" Fyre laughed. I wanted to stop her, but she was too strong.
"You really think that it's that easy? This is MY time. I won't stand in the shadows anymore. Now people will see ME!"
In that instant, I realized what actually formed Demons. It wasn't genetics. It wasn't trauma, or injury, or sickness. It was isolation. It was being shut out by the world. Demons were created when someone snapped. When someone felt so utterly hopeless that their feelings were personified. It all made sense; Anti and Dark were alive because of the pressure of their Holders careers and expectations. Jackson's must be from his own past, but I still didn't know much about him. Fyre existed because of the betrayal and pain I had felt in the past. Fyre was my issues -my abandonment problems, my depression, anxiety, fear, impulsiveness, recklessness, frustrations- all combined together to form a living being.
And suddenly there were four. Shockingly, it only took three point seven seconds for not only Jack to lose to Anti, but also another to appear.
Anti nodded casually at Jackson and Dark. Dark ignored him, his eyes locked on Fyre, and Jackson merely frowned and crossed his arms in an annoyed manner.
"We had a deal, girl." Dark said in a disappointed tone. Fyre laughed.
"Do I sense a challenge?" The other Demons looked her directly in her glowing red eyes and answered at the same time.
"You know it." Fyre grinned as flames rolled along her arms. Looking around, I watched her competitors do similar acts. Anti glitched menacingly. Red, blue, and black shadows swam around Dark. Electricity danced across Jackson's palm.
As you might guess, four different Demon powers colliding don't go well.
KABOOM!
The room lit up with bright, multi-colored light, and I fell to the ground, fading into unconsciousness.
