I groaned and rolled over, instantly regretting it. Dull but sudden pain burst through my side. My eyes flew open, only to slam back shut at the blinding light.

I blinked the spots out of my eyes. The door slamming open woke me right up. A brown-haired woman in a pristine white lab coat strolled into the room. The door closed behind her. She glanced between the four of us. I sat up and, like the others, watched her warily.

She stood in the middle of the room, seemingly evaluating us. Then she walked over to me. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Jack slowly stand up, an angry, protective look in his eyes. The woman must have sensed it because she turned to him momentarily.

"Try anything and I can assure you that you will regret it. There are armed guards right outside that door." Jack didn't respond. The woman turned back to me.

"Come with me." When I didn't move, she frowned.

"Fine then." Then she grabbed my arm and roughly pulled me to my feet. I yelped in surprise. The pain in my side was gone, wiped away by the adrenaline in my veins. She pulled me towards the door despite my struggling.

"Let me go!" I shouted as I tried unsuccessfully to pry her hand from my wrist. Instead, she tightened her grip and shoved me through the door. I stumbled into the hall with so much momentum I tripped over myself. My head slammed into the floor. It hurt badly but I forced myself not to pass out.

That was my first mistake.

It would have saved me a lot of pain.
