Brooklyn's POV
The day that I became a General stuck out in my mind as if it happened yesterday.
It had been almost two years since I received the letter from the King and Queen, telling me that I was a candidate to become the new General. I wasn't chosen because they knew of me, I was chosen because of my magic level. It was the same with the other nineteen candidates.
Aside from the King and Queen themselves, and the previous Generals, I was one of the highest-ranking mages' in the kingdom. My magic level was ninety, and at the age of twenty-two at the time, it was a pretty good level to be at.
When I showed my mum the letter, she literally burst out crying, and they weren't happy tears either. She knew that if I was chosen for the role, I would have to go and live in the castle. It was a very high honour and I was grateful for the opportunity to prove myself. I just knew it would be difficult not seeing my mum as often as I usually did.
In fact, I didn't see her for a whole year once the process started. That was how long it took them to test us. A year full of physical, mental and psychological training, making sure that they only chose the very best candidate for the job.
That candidate was me.
So, fast forward two years and here I am.
I'll admit, the first few months were challenging for me. Tatum and Sasha were world-renowned Generals, so I knew I had huge shoes to fill. Alongside that, I was doing the job by myself.
I had yet to find my mate, so a job that was usually down to two was now solely for one. At least until I found them.
Despite the challenges of the role, it was very fulfilling. The looks of awe on children's faces when they walked past you was something that made me very proud. Knowing that I was someone people could look up to and aspire to be was a feeling I couldn't even describe,
"General Myers."
I turned on the spot and came face to face with Commander Warrick, his right fist placed over the crest of Kindridas, located just above his heart. He was the leader of the royal army, in terms of training anyway. Despite that, no new training plans were final unless they were approved by me,
"Commander. How are we today?" I replied, mimicking his stance briefly before we both lowered our hands,
"Very well thank you. I was wondering if you have the time, we could go over some new ideas and regimes for the recruits?"
I gave him a single nod and gestured for him to lead the way. King Clarence and Queen Anneliese were at breakfast, so at this point, I had nothing to do with my time. Even then, I am a General, not a personal bodyguard,
"Unhappy with the current regime, Commander?"
He cleared his throat before speaking, "Not necessarily. It is just outdated. I have no trouble training my recruits how it is, I would just prefer if it was more up to date."
I nodded in agreement but stayed silent. It's true that the regime was outdated, but I looked at it from a more modern and technological viewpoint.
In the age we're in now, our enemies, as well as our allies, were more in tune to what was going on in the world. Whether it be new and updated weaponry from Reylar Enterprise or merely a change in their strategic thinking.
The worst thing that could happen to Kindridas, would be for the rest of the world to move forward and leave us behind with our outdated training and regimes. Something I would not allow to happen while under my command.
