Hey! It's been quite a while hasn't it?
It took me a long time to finish writing this chapter. I've re-written it at least 4 times prior to this version and even then, I'm not 100% happy with it but I'm content enough to publish it how it is. At this point, there's probably no more than 1 or 2 chapters left before the epilogue so we're very close to the end now.
Anyway! Hope you forgive me for taking so long and I hope you enjoy this chapter... as much as you can.

*Trigger Warning: Suicide*
The atmosphere in both locations right now was tense, to say the very least. Those who were around Laylah, were scared to make a sound other than the ones coming from their feet as they walked through the tunnel. They didn't want to say anything in case it was the wrong thing, so they all opted to stay silent.
Brooklyn, however, was silent purely because she had no one else to talk to. She wished in that moment that she did though. Having someone to talk to would help take her mind off of what was currently going. She wouldn't even mind talking to Commander Warwick. She would take anyone she could get.
Both women didn't realise how close they were to each other. A few tunnels were standing in the way of them and if Laylah could figure out the right path to take, she would be reunited with her mate once again.
If only it was that easy though.
It seemed like the universe was completely against the two of them being together and it was starting to get annoying, for the both of them but mainly for Laylah. Especially in this moment.
As the group continued through the tunnels, smoke started to cloud around them, and Laylah internally rolled her eyes. Of course, this wasn't going to be easy, she thought,
"Everyone band together!" She shouted out. The rest of the group wasted no time in getting as close together as possible, making sure to keep both her and Queen Anneliese as close to the centre as they could. They couldn't afford for anything to happen to them, not with their status.
It was hard to see in front of them for a bit, but Laylah wasn't stupid. She knew what this was, and she knew what was about to happen. While she hadn't experienced it first-hand, she had heard and read enough about it to know what to do in this kind of situation. Many people assumed she was just a sheltered Princess turned Queen who had no real idea on how to rule but she was far from it. She knew her stuff and it was about time everyone started to realise that,
"Clear it out." Laylah spoke bluntly. She didn't have time for these kinds of games.
Without even being told directly, Devin knew that question was directed to her, so she merely nodded, despite not being seen do it, and waved her hand in front of her, clearing out the smoke almost immediately.
Once it was cleared out, they could see a group of people inching towards them. The smoke was being used as a cover and now that that cover was gone, both groups had no choice but to go in all guns blazing.
Laylah wasted no time in shifting into her cat. She was hoping she wouldn't have needed to bring Venice out, but it seemed like they were leaving her with no choice. She didn't quite care either way though. If that's what it took to get closer to saving Brooklyn, so be it.
Once she was shifted fully, she stretched out briefly before baring her teeth at the group in front of her. It consisted of three men and two women. She thought that they would all be mages but it surprised Laylah when she inhaled their scent and realised that they weren't. In fact, they were all different species. Two of the men were fairies, the other one was a vampire. One of the women was a mermaid and the other was a werewolf. It seemed like things were getting more confusing as the seconds went by.
