Laylah's POV
*The Royal Tour: Day One*
The day was finally here.
I'll admit, the past two weeks have been hectic. When my parents told the kingdom I would be going on a Royal Tour with a mage, there was uproar.
It's not that we had a problem with any other species, but literally a few days before, we never ventured outside of our realm. Now, we've gone to an annual ball, and I'm doing a Royal Tour. It's amazing how much things could change in such a short space of time. I was more than ready to embrace it though; I just wished the kingdom felt the same way I did.
We've been sheltered behind our walls for way too long, and it was about time we stepped out into the open and showed everyone exactly what we were made of. This Royal Tour would give us the opportunity to do that. I was going to make sure our name was put out there and that it was spread in a good light.
As I made my way down the castle halls, a few of the cubs ran past me chasing each other. I couldn't help but smile at them. They were just so carefree, and it made me remember when I was their age, without a care in the world.
Addison and I used to chase each other down the halls practically every day, until one day we accidentally broke a vase and we got told off for it. After that, we just ran around on the castle grounds instead,
"Princess!"
I stopped in my tracks and turned to face the source of the voice. It was a guard named Quincy, who I'm pretty sure had a crush on Addison. Every time she was near him, he would choke on his words and blush. I found it kind of cute, but Addie refused to believe it was true,
"Hi Quincy."
He smiled and bowed to me, "Sorry for interrupting you, but your parents told me to come and get you. I believe General Myers has arrived."
My eyebrows raised in surprise. I knew she was meant to arrive today, but I didn't realise it would be so soon. It was still early afternoon, so it was a little surprising to me that she was here already. Not that I was complaining or anything.
I gestured for him to lead the way and he nodded before turning and walking forward, allowing me to follow behind him. We eventually got to the throne room and as soon as I walked in, everyone's heads turned to face me. Well, I say everyone, but it was only my mum, dad and Brooklyn,
"Ah, here she is." My dad announced. I continued to walk forward until I was standing directly in front of him, to the left of Brooklyn,
"Afternoon General Myers." I spoke politely. She gave me a small smile before bowing,
"Good afternoon Princess."
My dad stood up from his throne and walked forward. I knew he didn't like Brooklyn. I didn't know why though. It could be because he didn't really know her and now all of a sudden, she was going to be with me for a whole month away from home. Or it could just be that he doesn't like her full stop,
"We were just discussing how General Myers is here earlier than planned."
Brooklyn nodded and clasped her hands behind her back, "I thought it would be in our best interest to depart early. After all, this will be the longest trip. The journey from here to Avanos will take roughly five hours and I would prefer to arrive before the sun sets."
He stared her down, but her gaze didn't falter. As a General, she is part of a handful of people that are allowed to look the royal family directly in their eyes,
"And how exactly do you plan to get to Avanos?" He asked, trying to catch her out. I didn't know for sure, but something told me that Brooklyn wasn't someone to be caught out often,
