Brooklyn's POV

After I escorted the Princess back to the ballroom, I made my way to where I was supposed to be.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't mind the detour, but I couldn't afford to have anymore of them tonight. The night so far was going smoothly, more so than I thought, and I needed to make sure it stayed that way.

I was actually on my way to check up on the patrol teams. I had pretty much left them to it the whole night, but I thought now would be a better time than any. The King and Queen didn't need me by their side right now so I might as well make use of the time I had free right now.

Luckily, I managed to catch up to team five, who was being led by Captain James and Lieutenant Moores. As soon as they saw me approach, they immediately stood to attention and raised their fist to their crest,

"General. Wasn't expecting to see you tonight." Captain James spoke out.

I gave him a look before I walked up to him, "Always expect me Captain, that way, you'll never be caught off guard."

I walked past him and laid my eyes on the Soldiers and Cadets, who were also stood to attention. You could see the fear in some of their eyes, although I wasn't quite sure why. I didn't think I was that scary,

"Soldiers. Cadets. Are we performing to the best of our abilities tonight?"

"Yes General!" They shouted out in unison, making me nod my head in satisfaction,

"Good. Will we have any problems tonight?"

"No General!"

"Perfect. You can think of this as an unofficial test. Don't think just because I am not here, I don't know what's going on. If any of you step out of line just once tonight, I will be dealing with you personally. It is not the night to get on the wrong side of me. Nothing is to go wrong tonight, have I made myself perfectly clear? That includes you two as well."

I directed the last bit of my sentence to Captain James and Lieutenant Moores,

"Yes General!"

I stared at each of them individually before I gave them a single nod, "Carry on."

I more or less did the same with the remaining nine groups. Not to instil fear or anything, but to keep them on guard. Tonight was the biggest night of the year. The annual ball, no matter where it was held, was always a night of importance and it was paramount that nothing was to go wrong.

If anything was to happen tonight, the King and Queen would be highly disappointed in me. I could handle upset, I could handle anger but the one thing I could never handle, was disappointment of any form.

Once I had made my way around to every group, which took roughly half an hour, I felt a pulse of magic rush through me. It was the King or Queen summoning me to wherever they were. They were more than likely still in the ballroom so I made my way over there as quickly as I could.

However, when I walked into the ballroom, they were nowhere to be found. The ball was still going but I could not locate them.

I walked up to one of the guards, "Where are the King and Queen?"
