Brooklyn's POV
*Five Weeks Later*
So much had happened in the last month and I didn't even know where to start. It only took a few days to locate my successor for the General position and once we did, the King and Queen took over completely from there, allowing Laylah and I to finish packing up my stuff.
We weren't actually able to take everything with us to Selestris and we opted to slowly bring everything down as the weeks went on. Over a month later, we finally managed to bring everything over.
My Mum cried on the day that I had to leave, and I admit, I did shed a few tears myself. Kindridas had been my home for twenty-four years and it hurt me to leave but I knew it was for the best. Too much had happened for me to want to stay and I truly wanted to start fresh with Laylah by my side.
Speaking of Laylah. Her endless support over the last few weeks was rock solid and I couldn't be anymore grateful for it. She was there through all of my nightmares, which continued even to this day. It was taking a while for them to disappear and I knew they would continue to haunt me for a bit longer, much to my annoyance.
That didn't faze Laylah though. She just held me at night when I would wake up in either tears or sweats and I wished that I could hold her forever, but reality would always set in eventually, meaning we would have to get up and tend to our duties in the kingdom.
Selestris wasn't happy with my arrival. At least at first.
There was uproar at the fact that a mage was going to be Queen. It was unheard of. The royals had always been Lattamers for as long as anyone could remember and now that line was tarnished, according to some. Laylah wasn't having that. She explicitly said that if anyone had a problem with it, they would answer to her and while no one said anything outright, there would always be tension surrounding it.
Due to that though, I said I wanted to postpone my coronation for a while. At least until I could get into the good books of the people, no matter how long it took.
Laylah also decided to join the Elite. It was a big risk but after I explained to her the benefits to it and the allies that she could gain, it was hard for her to say no. I was glad she agreed to it in the end though. It truly would benefit Selestris in the long run and deep down she knew that,
"Brooklyn!"
The sound of my name being called and the clicking of fingers in my face, snapped me out of my trance and I looked up at Laylah, who was looking at me both confused and worried,
"You okay?" She asked softly. I nodded,
"I'm fine. Just spaced out for a minute there. Apologies. What were you saying?"
She continued to look at me worriedly, not quite believing me when I said that I was fine,
"Are you sure? You've been spacing out a lot after what happened. You can talk to me you know."
I smiled and stood up from the bed that I was currently sitting on so that I was at the same height she was. I gently placed my hands on her waist,
"I know and I will, however, I'm fine right now. I was just thinking back to the past few weeks, that's all." She continued to look at me wearily, so I gave her a small kiss on the lips, "I promise."
She nodded, "Okay."
I removed my hands and sat back down on the bed, "What was it that you were saying?"
"I was just asking whether you'd like to join me for dinner tonight?"
I looked at her confused, "We eat dinner together every night, do we not?"
