Laylah's POV
*1 week later*
Being back home, for better words, was weird.
While I had only been gone for like a month or so, it felt like so much had changed since I left that I just wasn't quite sure how to act around my own people now. I didn't know who to trust since the incident and that was clear.
The first thing I did when I got back was talk to my Mum, who was still inconsolable. She was at the point where she didn't even want to be on this earth anymore without my Dad and it broke my heart.
Seeing her break down into tears in my arms, was enough to make me break down as well. We spent at least an hour or so just crying together, grieving together. Neither of us talked and I don't think either of us wanted to. It wasn't necessary in the moment and we both knew that.
I reminded her that she didn't have to continue leading the kingdom if she didn't want to. While at the beginning of this Tour, I wasn't keen on becoming Queen, I now know that it was going to happen eventually and if I had to step up now and lead the kingdom, I would do so. Especially if it meant my Mum didn't have to,
"Your Majesty."
I turned my neck slightly to face the door and saw one of the guards bowing to me,
"What is it Wes?"
"Lady Vivienne requests your presence in the throne room."
I nodded and waved him off, prompting him to leave the room and close the door behind him.
I forgot to mention that I had my coronation two days after I returned home. We all agreed that it was better to do it sooner rather than later so that my Mum didn't have to bear the burden of being Queen for much longer.
Not everyone was happy with it, but I didn't care. This was how it was going to be from now on and they had no choice but to like it.
I stood up from my chair and made my way out of the room so that I could go into the throne room. Upon my arrival, Vivienne bowed to me and I rolled my eyes. She knew we didn't have that kind of relationship, she was practically like an Aunt to me,
"You know you don't have to bow to me every time, right?"
She smiled at me, "I know but it's polite and it's custom. I bow to Celeste and we've been friends for longer than you've been alive."
I sat down on my throne and sadly looked to my right, bringing my hand out to place it on my Dad's throne. I refused to have it be removed from the room. I wanted to keep his memory alive for as long as I could. Luckily, this was one of the rooms that had the least damage to it and while the castle was still being repaired, it was better than what it was.
I cleared my throat and removed my hand before looking back at her to see her giving me a sad smile,
"Was there something you wanted to talk about?"
She nodded, "Yes. You need to decide what it is that you want to do with the prisoners. It's been over a week now and you know better than anyone that every prisoner has to be heard in Court in a week or less from their arrest."
I sighed and removed the crown from my head, placing it on the arm of the throne so I could run a hand through my hair. I rubbed my ears slightly as well as I felt Venice start to get restless,
"They can rot in the cells for all I care. They're lucky I had people around me to calm me down a week ago because I was ready to come home and kill them for what they did to Daddy."
