ersonally, I'm not a big fan of using a lot of figurative language because it just adds extra words to create visual scenery that most people can make on their own, but then again, that's just my opinion. If you're going to use metaphors and similes for description, please do not saturate your story with so many details that it simply becomes a lull and a bore to read. I peer-edited many stories that just had too much detail and not enough action. However, if it's to create a point or empathize an action or dialogue, such as using allusions or alliteration to create a rhythm, then as long as you use it well then it helps give the story an extra layer of depth.
