This can also be taught as indirect vs direct characterization, but just straight-up bluntly stating all the facts is boring. Readers enjoy suspense, they enjoy having that mystery and the feeling of accomplishment when they figure out a 'plot twist' of sorts, hence why plot twists are such a popular element of stories. I find a good ratio of indirect-direct is 85-15, depending on how long the story is and what specifically is going on.
