The rest of the day was chaotic inside the old house. Frank was having a full-on panic attack as he gathered up all the evidence of him and Gerard from the house and into his car. He had instructed Gerard to check every room of the strangely large house for anything he could have possibly missed, but thankfully there was nothing to be found.
As soon as night fell, Frank decided it was safe for both of them to leave and preferably as fast as possible. They would never be able to return, mainly out of Frank's fear that the police were already hot on their tracks and heading towards the soon to be empty house.
After Gerard had agreed without any hesitation, Frank quickly blindfolded Gerard like he had a few days prior, still unable to fully trust him. Trembling slightly as he walked, Frank led him out of the door and into the car, being careful not to accidentally hit his head or anything in the process.
It was a bit strange though. Gerard had been especially quiet for most of the day. Frank wanted to ask him what the matter was, but he was far too nervous about the problem at hand to be able to worry about why Gerard sat silently with a blank face on.
After Frank had done a perimeter check of the house, he hurried back to the car where Gerard was thankfully still waiting. Taking one last hesitant look at the house, he started up the car and drove off.
In all honesty, Frank had no idea as to where he was taking the two of them. He thought that his original plan would have been perfect, and they wouldn't ever have to face this problem. But, unfortunately there were some unintended flaws that occurred along the way, resulting in them having to flee.
Frank didn't mention anything to Gerard, but he mostly blamed his brother for having to leave. If Mikey hadn't gone snooping around and had just minded his own business, the police wouldn't now be searching for the two of them. Apparently, Frank should've considered the fact that Gerard and Mikey were practically inseparable brothers, and that Mikey was apparently a nosy bitch.
When at least thirty minutes of driving nowhere in particular had passed by, Gerard had seemingly fell peacefully asleep against the window of the car door. Now that they had at least left the house successfully, Frank was starting to calm down and think about Gerard more. He really hoped he was doing alright- he hadn't spoken any of the car ride either. Surely, something serious was going through his head.
Later on in the night, Frank grew more paranoid from lack of sleep. He could've sworn he heard sirens off in the distance, most likely coming for him. With a rush of panic surging through him, he sped up the car.
"You're not going to catch us. I won't let you take him. He's mine, he's mine, he's fucking mine!"
Eventually, Frank happened to run over a bump in the road, and with the increased speed, it really shook the whole car. Glancing to his right to check and see if Gerard had been woken up by it, he was disappointed to find that that was in fact, the case.
"Sorry," Frank mumbled, a little embarrassed.
"It's okay," Gerard replied quietly, stretching his arms. Frank looked back over from the road at that. It surprised him that Gerard had finally spoken, even if it was practically just a whisper.
"Are you doing okay?" Frank asked after a couple of silent minutes had gone by.
Gerard nodded his head, "Yeah, just a little overwhelmed I guess".
"Was it... something I did?"
"No," Gerard replied with a nervous smile spreading across his face. "It's just the whole running away thing. I'm running away from my brother willingly... with you know, you, the guy who kidnapped me".
"Would that even make it illegal anymore?" Frank replied with a hopeful smile. "Surely, they can't arrest me if you want to be with me".
Gerard sat thinking about it for a moment, "I'm not sure, but either way, Mikey and the police don't know that".
"Well we certainly can't tell them ourselves," Frank stated. "I'm not risking us getting caught, and them taking you away from me".
Gerard didn't say anything in response to that. Frank almost assumed he had fallen asleep again, but when he glanced over, Gerard was sitting up and staring down in the direction of the dashboard- the blindfold still on.
Frank didn't know what that silence really meant. There was the possibility that Gerard didn't approve of what they were doing at all, yet the little speech he gave the other night said otherwise.
Whatever the case was, Frank didn't have to think about it much longer, because he suddenly spotted a hotel. Even though he was still extremely anxious about possibly being chased by the police, it seemed like a good idea. He was exhausted and stressed, and he wasn't sure how much longer he'd be able to drive.
When mentioning the idea to Gerard, he happily agreed, admitting he was tired as well, and also sick of having to wear the blindfold. So, trying to be very cautious, Frank checked into the hotel with a fake name and used cash to pay for their stay.
The hotel room was quite pleasant. It was clean, spacious, and well-decorated- a lot better than the isolated house they had been staying at. For the first time all day, Gerard smiled with a look of relief on his face.
While Gerard headed off to the bedroom to go to sleep, Frank couldn't help but peek out the window in the kitchen. There were no flashing lights from police cars, but rather just the twinkling lights from the stars above.
"Frank?" Gerard called softly from the other room. Hearing his voice was comforting. It reminded Frank that this was all worth it. Gerard would be forever his. He refused to have it any other way. Frank took one more look outside before shutting the curtains closed.
In the bedroom, Frank's mouth dropped open a bit at the sight of Gerard- he had taken off all his clothes except for his boxers and was sprawled out on the bed. Frank had never seen him like this, but honestly, he really liked it.
"What can I do for you, Gee?" Frank asked, pulling of his own shirt with a smirk.
"I, um..." he started, "I can't fall asleep. Do you want to maybe cuddle or something? It's just that that one night that we did I fell asleep right away and... yeah".
Frank raised his eyebrows at that. He definitely wasn't expecting to hear that, yet he didn't complain. Nodding his head and giggling at his dirty mind, he climbed under the covers with Gerard, and held him close, burying his face into the back of his neck.
When an uneasy silence filled the room, Gerard luckily asked, "Are you going abandon me Frank? If things get to difficult for us?"
Frank was surprised by the question at first, but soon replied, "Of course not. I'm never going to leave you. I don't care what happens. We're in this together now... right?"
"But what if they catch us?"
"They won't. I won't let them".
Gerard sighed, still unsure about everything, but finally agreed. Pulling Frank's arm over him, he hugged it playfully, making Frank smile.
The next morning Frank awoke to an empty bed, making him freak out again. Not again, not again, not again.
Within an instant, he was on his feet, darting into the other room. Thankfully, it didn't take him long to spot Gerard's bright red hair in front of the television.
Apparently, Gerard had ordered room service and had a piece of toast shoved in his mouth as he stared wide-eyed at screen before him.
"You know, we might have to do something about that hair color of yours," Frank half-joked. "It's almost a little too easy to spot you". But when he received no reply, he couldn't help but to wonder what Gerard was watching that had him so distracted.
Suddenly, Frank's heart sank as he saw his and Gerard's pictures displayed on the news channel.
"Twenty-six year old Gerard Way has been reported missing as of the last few weeks. After careful investigation, authorities highly suspect that he has been kidnapped from his home by a twenty-two year old man named Frank Iero. If you have any information on their possible whereabouts, please contact the police immediately".
"Shit".
