Makyah

"As long as you're happy, we're happy for you." Mani spoke as she lifted her glass up. Cedes smiled proudly. "All I know is, you've been glowing gurll."

I shook my head, a smile forming its way on my face, "I'm not glowing."

"Liar."

"That's that single glow," Cedes chimed. "Or maybe she finally letting Zaiver knock it do—"

As I'd predicted, after a couple more days avoiding them, they'd come to check on me. So I'd gone ahead and told them I had ended things with Malik.

Ever since then, they'd been supportive. I could they were trying to stay close by and at the same time give me space, just in case.

I appreciated them immensely for it.

Almost half a month since I'd confided in Zai and I'd never felt so carefree— happy.

"Cedes!!"

She shrugged nonchalantly. "Cede leave her alone, if she wanna lie to us let her," said Mani causing me to glare at her. I flung my middle finger at her just as the front door opened and in popped Zaiver.

"Wassup ladies?" We all waved. "I'm just bout to grab my bag real quick." I nodded.

After the girls left I'd gone and spent the last two hours cleaning up the house and rearranging the living room. Once things had been cleaned to my liking, I'd gotten into the shower.

"Kyahhh!"

I was just about done getting into some comfortable clothes.

"Upstairs!"  I yelled back, hoping he'd heard me.

"Any luck with finding a second job?" I'd been munching down on a family bag of Doritos, wedged in between us.

He nodded, "Yea, had a few interviews this week. Bout half of them called me back so come next week I should have another job."

"That's what's up--" Crunch. "So how's ya uncle? Swear that nigga still ain't ever around." A chuckle bubbled its way up from my throat. He laughed, "I'm telling you..."

The way he'd trailed off had me worried though. It was the tone in his voice. I didn't know if that was another issue he didn't feel comfortable talking to me about or what, but as his best friend, he needed to know that I was here for him no matter what.

I leaned towards him, "You— is this something you can talk to me about? Or does my presence alone make you feel better?"

He looked down at me, playfully bumping his shoulder against mine. "It's nothing that serious. It's— He never been around since I been here, now all of a sudden I come back and now he wanna be a father figure."

He scoffed. "Pressing me out on how I'm wasting my life away... All that nigga ever did was take me in, that's it. If it wasn't for Mama B and you, I prolly never would've never made it through high school."

His head fell into his hands, he was hurting and I didn't know what to do make it better. I slung my arm around his shoulders, "You'll be okay."

He chuckled, raising his head back up. "You always been the weirdo with a big ass heart and no idea how to use it."

"What?"

He shrugged. And right then an idea popped into my head. "Be my roommate?— Well house-mate really, but you get it."

It was his turn to question me, "Nigga, what?"

I nodded. "Think about it. We got along— I mean you annoying as fuck, but—" He threw an arm around me, the other tickling me. "Always talking shit." I squealed, jumping away from him and off of the bed.

I put my hands up, "Will you?" He stared, shrugging. "I mean, I know you can't live without me and all. I guess my hands are tied." I rolled my eyes. "Yea, okay nigga. You need me."

He launched himself towards me, "You know I need you, dummy."
