Makyah
We'd been basically halfway through the movie.
The girls were seated up in the row in front of us while Zai had tucked us in the darkest corner in the theater room.
"Pst!"
I ducked my head down, "Wassup?"
It was Cedes, "I'm boutta get some more food, y'all want something?"
Zai shook his head, his arm sling over the back of my seat waiting for me to lean back.
"Yea, grab me them peanut M&Ms and that bomb ass smoothie."
"I gotchu."
Leaning back I got comfortable, laying my head on his shoulder.
Things was good; I had my girls, my best friend, and myself, wasn't anything else I needed.
Zai was almost done with school. Cedes and Mani were excelling in their careers and I had, for a couple months now, was through with training and was working with youths.
I loved my job. Wasn't anything better than listening to their problems, finding ways to help them through it, and leaving them feeling confident in themselves.

I turned to face him in the dark room. "Ever since you started back on school, the lowest you had was a "C" and that was two, three times at the most. Zai, when it comes to visual projects, you probably the best ya professors got..."
I sighed. I believed in him and no amount of words was going to live up to his worth. "If they don't see what I see in you, then they wasting ya time. Period."
I could tell he wasn't convinced, but at the end of the day, it was up to him, not me.
One of the best construction companies in Cali wanted an interview with him and he was leaving first thing in the morning. He was nervous and he had reason to be, but he had this in the bag.
"I got a record, Kyah," he stated as a matter of fact. I nodded.
"Zai, you was barely seventeen when you was charged. You put ya self through four years in college to correct ya mistakes, you got this."
"Ight..."
