Makyah

"Yass gurl! I'm so happy for all of us," Cedes yelled as she made her way into the house. Mani was right behind her, looking equally excited. "I know right, y'all I been so tired trying juggle all this together. Now it's gone be one less thing off all our plates."

They both hugged on me, squealing in excitement.

"We need to celebrate, garotas." She threw her arms up, moving her hips in an eight-figure. I was already shaking my head, no as Cedes excitedly bounced up and down, her head nodding. "She is right, Makah... You know when Zaiv next day off is? We can all throw some money together and he can bring some friends." She wriggled her eyebrows suggestively.

I scoffed, "Why cant it just be us three?" The last few days, consisted of me barely being able to look Zai in the eyes. I couldn't believe that I'd gone so long without really seeing him.

It'd been like, always being told you had bad eyesight, and not believing until you finally put on the prescriptions―okay, not quite, but close enough. I saw him in a whole new light and I couldn't take it back.

Every time he talked to me, I could definitely see his lips move, but all I wanted to do was taste them.

I'd started waking up in cold sweats after dreaming of him, in the middle of the night. All because he'd decided to fall asleep barechested on his couch. "Cause it's always us three and he lives here now, so it's only right we invite his fine ass."

Cedes chimed in, "Amen. Maybe his friends'll look good too." I scoffed, "Ight I'll talk to him tonight..."

They cheered. For the rest of the evening, we talked some more, prepared dinner together, and drank.

The girls and I had been in the living room drinking and talking when I'd heard the basement door open and close. Shortly after, Zai had popped up around the corner, waving at us tiredly, "Wassup yall?"

"Hey Zai," we simultaneously sang, as he walked into the kitchen—no doubt starving. Mani had spoken up first, "We need to get going, it's getting late and I need to be up early." Her accent, strong.

Cedes nodded her head. "Yea, we gotta go." I got up. "You sure? I can drop y'all off or y'all can stay the night?"

Mani had been their designated driver for the night, she hadn't drunk all that much, but still I worried anyway. Cedes shook her head rapidly, "Oh no, I gotta dick appointment, Shay coming through."

I raised an eyebrow thoughtfully. "Ight, well call me when y'all home." They nodded, heading out the door. "Bye Zaiv!!" I heard him call out a response from inside the kitchen before locking the front door and heading his way.

"Zai?" He'd been fixing himself a plate, "Wassup?"

I came to take a seat by the island, elbows resting atop the marble counter and my chin in my hands.

"I told you, about how I finished my internship right?" He nodded, turning to face me— his eyes focused elsewhere though.

"Yea."

"Well all three of us are finally finished, so we wanna turn up. If you wanna bring a few of niggas over, you can." The microwave beeped, signaling that his food was ready. He turned to pop it open. "The girls don't really get to see you like that, so it'd be great if you chilled with us."

He'd grabbed his food, setting it across from me before taking a seat. "I'm proud of you, I know Mama B would've been too."

I smiled. "Thank you. I aim to please."

The moment the words left my lips, his eyes had widened a tad, like he'd heard the potential double meaning behind the words.

A certain unknown aura filled the space between us and I licked my lips—they'd felt weirdly dry.  Nervously he chuckled. "I bet you do," he responded. Had he just flirted? Nah, we were friends, I was reading way too much into the situation.

An awkward laugh escaped my lips and before I could do something I'd regret, I got up dismissing myself.

"I gotta be up early tomorrow, goodnight. And just text me whenever you're free for the turn up and Imma let them know." With that, I hurriedly left the kitchen.
