Zaiver

I was nervous as hell on the way to Cali.

My interview wasn't until the next morning, but I counldn't get myself to believe that I was actually good enough for this opportunity.

As much as Kyah was always trying to get it through my head-

"If they don't see ya potential, Zai," she would say, "then fuck em, it's other companies ready to see it in you and if that ain't the case you can start ya own fucking business, fuck all of em!"

I chuckled thinking about her.

For a moment I forgot about why I was nervous in the first place, while I walked through the busy airport terminals. After ten good minutes, I was finally out in the California heat, just in time to get into my Uber and head to my hotel.

The drive into the city was long, being traffic was heavy; but it gave me time to take in the view going across the bridge and even to FaceTime Kayah.

The phone barely rung twice before she answered, she looked frantic. "You okay? How was the flight? Wait- Where you at?"

It took me a second to pop my airpods in before I was able to answer her. "Kyah, calm down. I'm good." I said trying to reassure her.

"Oh okay," she muttered to herself, "Whew!", she sighed. "I was over here having a heart attack, but enough about me. Was you able to double check ya reservation at the hotel and all that other stuff?"

I nodded, a smile creeping up on my face. The woman was relentless; she was my bestfriend, my mother, and my heart.

"I wouldn't been able to do any of this without you, Kyah-"

She interrupted, "Zai, you did this on ya own. Not me. You. You hear me? You been the one putting in the work and you gone be the one the to get this job..."

We stayed on the phone even after my Uber had dropped me off at the hotel.

The evening ended on a good note.
