You say you love me, I say you crazy
We're nothing more than friends
You're not my lover, more like a brother
I known you since we were like ten, yeah*unedited*
Caroline's POV
"Hey, Beau, I left my phone in the truck. Did you lock it?" He shakes his head. I stand up and make my way down the stands and out to the parking lot. I start walking towards Beau's truck when a tall skinny girl with black hair hits me in the head with a metal pipe. I fall to the ground and hit my head.
My vision blurs as I lay there. Two more girls walk up and the three of them start kicking and beating me. I can't move. My body is completely dead, sore, and trying not to pass out from the pain they are causing. I go limp and my eyes start to roll into the back of my head.
"You fucking killed her!" Footsteps leave my body as I just lay there.
I slowly peel my eyes open to see the dark night sky. I still can't move. My body hurts so fucking much. Blood trickles down my face. A car's headlights shine in my direction as it revs its engine. The car barrels towards and runs over my arm. I scream and jolt up. The car speeds out of the parking lot.
Pain shoots through me as I slowly stand up. I stagger my way back to the stands. Beau spots me and stands up. He walks down to me and panic washes over his face. "Are you okay? What happened?"
"Just take me to the hospital or doctor something." I start leaning to the side. Beau quickly picks me and looks back at Knox. He nods and Knox stands up. Beau takes me to the truck and lays me in the back seat. Beau and Knox climb in and start leaving.
"What the hell happened to her?!" Knox asks with anger in his voice.
"I don't know. She went to get her phone and came back like that." I close my eyes and everything darkens.
"Beau, what the hell happened to my daughter!"
"I did nothing Agustus! I don't even know who did this."
"My daughter has been in town two days and has done nothing to anyone and she gets beaten to a pulp and her fucking arm broke. TWO FUCKING DAYS!"
"She has enemies, Agustus, you know that and everyone knows that! When she fucking left, she left more than just her fucking family. She left her whole entire destructive life here. Everyone still believes she is the girl she was eight years ago."
"What were you guys doing before you guys went down to the track?"
"We were at the diner. Cricket ignored her and I don't know if Dixie saw her or not."
"Do you think they did this?"
"I don't know, sir. That is something you'll have to ask Caroline."
I let my eyes flutter open. The bright light of the room makes me groan and close my eyes again. "Are you wake now, Delta?"
I slowly open my eyes again but squint. "Thank God you are okay!" My mom comes and hugs me tight. I groan as pain shoots through me. She quickly pulls away. "Sorry."
"I want to go home." My voice is hoarse and stale a little crispy.
"I know, sweetheart, but we have to wait for the doctor to come back in." I try to sit up but my mom stops me and helps me.
"Delta, do you know who did this to you?" I look over at my dad and see him standing next to Beau.
"No." My dad frowns.
"Can you tell us what happened?" I take a deep breath.
"Some girl with long black hair hit me in the head with a pipe and I fell and hit my head on the ground. Then two other girls came out of nowhere and they all beat me. I played and they ran off and then came back in a car and ran over my arm." My dad nods as he tries to hold back his anger. "Where's Knox?"
"He has to leave tomorrow so he went on home." I nod.
"Honey, tell her." I look at my mom and scrunch my brows.
"Tell me what?" I look at my dad.
"You don't have to stay here in Maryville if you don't want to. You can go where ever and we will support you in your decision." I stare at him with a blank face.
"I can't go anywhere else. I have nowhere else to go." I glance over at Beau and see the worry and sadness in his eyes. "You think what happened tonight was bad but you were never with me when I was in juvie. You guys were never there you never visited. I was beat a lot there and you guys never knew."
I look at my mom and she lowers her head. "Caroline, what do you want to do?"
I look back at my dad. "I will stay if I don't have to make deliveries to the diner or anywhere that people will throw their judgy looks at me."
My dad nods. "Come on, Iris, let's go see if we can get the doctor."
My mom and dad leave the room. I look over at Beau as he shoves his hands into his pockets. "I should've came with you."
"Why are you trying to protect me now, Beau? You never protected me back then so why start now?" He takes step forward.
"I was scared then, Caroline. I was sixteen and you were only thirteen. I liked you a lot back then but you were always with Greer and I decided that I wasn't going to like someone who never liked me in the first place." I stare at him.
"Bea-"
"No, Caroline. That night of the wreck I knew you weren't driving. I knew it was Greer but I decided to save his ass and not yours. I don't know why I did it but I did. I regret it but I let it go. I'll be honest with you. I don't know why I am trying to protect you but I feel the need to." He interrupts me. He slowly gets closer to me. "Caroline, I am sorry."
"It's okay." He shakes his head. He steps closer to the bed and puts my hand in his rough one. He squeezes my hand and I lightly smile.
"You look like shit, you know?" I chuckle and take my hand out of his.
"Asshole." He smiles.
"You're damn right!"
