The ringing of the hotel telephone next to her bed pulled her out of her sleep. Quickly, in hope not to wake up the sleeping man next to her, Stevie picked up the phone.
"Hello?!", she answered, groggily.
"Stevie? Is that you?", a female voice asked.
"Umm, yes. Who am I talking to?", Stevie answered quietly, looking at the bare back of Lindsey who was lightly snoring while facing away from her. She smiled melancholically and ran her free hand through his dark curly hair. How did they always manage to end up like this again? It had not even taken them two whole weeks on tour to fall right back into bed with each other again.
"This is Belva. Robin's mom."
"Oh my God!", Stevie gasped, "What is wrong? Did something happen?"
"Listen dear," the other woman said sadly, "The doctors had to deliver the baby prematurely last night. It doesn't look good, Stevie. I think you should come to say goodbye to Robin."
"No...", Stevie whispered, instant tears filling her eyes.
"I know...", Belva cried, "It's heartbreaking but Robin wants to see you. She's – she's asking for you."
"I'll be there. I – I'm on my way. Tell Robin I'll take the next flight to LA.", Stevie was already climbing out of the bed, searching for a pair of clean panties to slip into.
"Don't take too long.", were Belva's last words before she ended the call.
Instantly, Stevie opened up one of her many suitcases to pull out the first pieces of clothing she could find while dialing the number of her assistant to book her a flight to Los Angeles.
"What are you doing?", Lindsey mumbled sleepily who had obviously been woken up by Stevie's noise.
Slightly started, she looked up at him from the floor, still only dressed in a pair of black lace panties while she grabbed a plain white top to pull over her naked upper body.
"Robin's mother just called.", she explained the situation, "She said they had to deliver the baby prematurely last night. It doesn't look good, Linds.", the last sentence was barely a whisper, her bottom lip trembling.
"Oh God.", Lindsey muttered, "Steph, I'm so sorry. What can I do? How can I help you?"
It was pretty obvious, that he was completely overwhelmed by the situation.
"Would you – would you take me to the airport, please?"
