I woke up that morning around 10'Oclock with a massive migraine. I couldn't help but look turn to my side and look outside at the busy streets below of New York City.
"It probably would be best if I got up now wouldn't it?" I said as I turned to my nightstand looking at the picture of my Dad.
He was in a shoot out about a year ago, leaving me with my Grandmother. My mother died at childbirth so I never really knew her, except from stories and pictures.
I untangled myself from the sheets and stepped onto the cold wood floor. I grabbed my brush and headed to the bathroom. I looked in the mirror blankely for a second with my cold hard blue eyes. I than started brushing my tangled wavy dirty blonde hair to the center of my back.
I've thought about chopping all my hair off to my neck, but than remind myself that I'd probably regret it one day. I than go to my dresser to grab a pair of jeans and and T-Shirt.
"Grandma! Where's my white T-Shirts?" I yelled down the hall.
"In the Laundry, and so are all your black ones!" She yelled back.
I than walk over to my closet and grab one of my Teal skater Dresses combat boots. I don't exactly despise dresses, its just I don't like when boys try to lift them up when im working at the Diner, but it'll just have to do for today.
I walk out into the tiny kitchen and grab some of the bacon left on the counter.
"I'll be home around 11 tonight. If Kathy comes in on time I might make it back a little earlier." I say as I walk over to the coat rack and grab my jean jacket.
"Be safe sweetie. Call me if you get a chance to let me know if you made it to work safe." As she finished I walked out the door and made it out the building.
I walked into a slightly packed Diner, and walked behind the bar counter.
"Hey Diane," I grab my apron and put it on around my waist"did Kathy call in sick yet today?"
"Nope, she might actually show up today and on time." Diane replies laughing as she pours someone's coffee at the bar.
I giggle a little bit myself as I grab a coffee pot and start to make my way around the bar and the booths. We usually get crowds of people from night clubs the night before, or the business man off to work or grabbing a bite between shifts. But this is the big Ol'NYC so there's some crazy people and events always happening.
"You really should be getting back to school." Diane says as we both go behind the bar to refil the pots.
"I know, but I need to watch out for my grandma and work extra since she can't work anymore."
"You are a sixteen year old girl, you shouldn't be working so hard."
"Well my dad didn't leave us didly squat. So I'm working off nothing here." Diane gives me this look of sympathy and turns around.
"Hate to break it to ya, but here comes trouble." I spin myself around to see a man trough the window aprouch the diner.
He kept his face down, but you could tell he was beat up pretty bad by just looking at the dirt marks on his white T-shirt tucked away by his leather jacket.
"You got this one kid?" Diane turns to me and asks.
"Yeah, I'll be fine. He probably just got into a fight or something." He than makes his way through the door and sits near the end of the bar, with his hands folded together and his head looking at the floor.
"What can I get for ya?" I ask standing opposite of him. There was no response.
"Coffee?" I ask again but yet no response.
"Let me know if ya need anything than." I walked away and continued my job.
About fifteen minutes later there was still no response.
"Hey kiddo, theres no one else here but Mr.Silence over there. Kathy said shed be by later to pick up the night shift, if ya wanna close up shop early today." Diane says as she hangs up her apron.
"Okay. Be safe!" I scream as she walks out the door.
"Well I guess its just you and me," I say as I lean over the bar looking at him."You sure got beat up there."
"You should see the other guy." He said motionless.
"Well maybe if ya let me take a look at ya, I can help clean up that dirt and blood off your face." I say trying to get a glimpse of his face. He jerks up his head quickly.
"Listen I don't need your help." He looked at me sternly locking eyes on me.
Oh boy did he have the deepest chocolate eyes that you'd ever see. His face was chiseled and he had the plumpest limps I've ever seen.
"I'm sorry, but that's kinda my job," I bit right back at him"Listen if you're not gonna order anything, and you're not gonna let me help you, than I'm gonna close up with or without you inside." I threw my apron on the coat rack and started walking out the door, when he butted right by me outside.
I watched him as he slowly walk off the opposite direction as me, when I felt a tug on my arm.
"Hey!" I spin myself around to see an older business man."Diners closed until 8."
"I'm not looking for any of your diner shit, I'm after something else." His grip tightens on my forearm.
