(Unknown POV)

I watched from outside the bar, as the male wolf held her in his arms, tight. I knew the second I saw her, that she was my mate. Did that Alpha know? Was he there to throw me off? To take her away from me? The anger threatened to boil over the top. I took several deep breaths, hoping it would calm my nerves. I knew she would make a worthy mate, an even better Queen. She had grabbed some bourbon from behind the counter and was currently drinking like a fish out of water.

I couldn't help but chuckle low in my throat. I knew what she was doing. I had done it many times when I couldn't bear the pain any longer. She was drinking away the sorrow, hoping to find the solution at the bottom of that bottle of hundred years old scotch. When really, her solution was standing right outside. It didn't take long for her to scent me. Or that Alpha sitting next to her.

Both of their heads pointed to the air, smelling it. Luckily, it was only her that smelled me. The Alpha hadn't, yet. I was sure she could only smell me because of the mate bond. The male wolf beside her could only smell the blood. Her body went rigid as she slowly turned in her seat. Tension rolled through my body as her eyes flickered around the room, only to find that no one was there. I wanted to stroll on that room and lift her off her feet, carry her out of that terrible place. The Alpha grabbed her shoulders, shaking slightly. She tried to break away the eye contact, but I held her gaze.

Her breath hitched and she blushed. All I could do was smile. Her blush deepened upon me smiling, so I winked. Her eyes widened and then her head dipped down. At that moment, the male sitting next to her, lifted his snout and smelled the air, deeply. His eyes flickered to mine and I smiled again. Only this time, I showed fang. His eyes narrowed and he stood, ready for a fight. I didn't want to fight, I only wanted to talk to the beautiful woman sitting at his side, currently getting sloshed. I couldn't help but chuckle at the thought. I desperately wanted to know her name, to know her completely. Although, I doubt that Alpha was going to let it happen.

For a vampire such as myself to have a wolf for a mate, is extremely rare, it almost never works out. The wolf would usually have to be bitten, and then changed into a vampire. They almost always refuse, not wanting to leave their inner wolf behind. Of course, I never thought my mate was going to be a wolf. I was hoping for another vampire, that I could do things with, without worrying if I was hurting her or not. And that's another thing, I could never be fully happy with her, even though we were mates. My king would never approve. He would want to kill her as soon as he smelled her. Of course, I would never let that happen. The Alpha hadn't stopped staring at me, so I sighed deeply and turned towards the door.

(Fay's POV)

Aatos smelled him too. I knew it as soon as I saw his face. He was my mate. How could that be? He was a vampire! I couldn't have a vampire for a mate, that never happens. The tension in my body only worsened when he turned from the window and walked towards the door. My breathing slowed to the pointed that Aatos had to tell me to keep breathing. At first I had thought it was Dusty, that he had come back to finish me off. But when my eyes met his, I felt the sparks that meant only one thing; my mate.

Aatos stood and crouched low; a wolf's sign that he was getting ready for a fight. I sucked in a breath as I heard the familiar creak of the bar door. Aatos positioned his body slightly in front of mine to protect me from the potential threat. I was too interested in my feet to notice that the vampire had walked all the way into the bar and was now sitting on the bar a few seats down from where I was standing. My breathing had become heavy as I felt his eyes bore into the back of my head. Aatos noticed this and bent down to my ear.

"Fay... Who is this man? He seems quite familiar to you. Is there something you would like to tell me?" I looked up at him. What was I supposed to say? That this vampire was my mate?! That would break his heart. He wanted me to join his pack, but I couldn't bring the vamp with me. He wouldn't stand a chance with all those wolves. I struggled to find the words. "Aatos... I think...." He sighed, "Fay, don't play coy with me. I don't have the time." "He's my mate." I blurted before I could clamp my hand over my mouth.

His eyes were wide and mouth was close to hitting the floor. "I think.... I mean I'm pretty sure." I mumbled but it didn't help my situation. The vampire stood to his feet and worked his way around the two dead vamps on the ground. "I see, that you two have had a rough night." My knees felt weak when he spoke, it only got worse when he looked into my eyes. I had never seen such a beautiful color. They were like a steely blue, almost grey, but amazingly captivating. My breathing had slowed and I didn't look like I was running out of oxygen anymore.

Suddenly, Aatos grabbed my arm and ripped me behind him. I stumbled back and fell on my ass. "Oh!" Was all I managed to get out before I watched Alpha lunge towards the vampire. My eyes opened wide and I let out a blood curdling scream. "No!"
