(Fay's POV)

I growled low in my throat. A threat for them to stay back. The nasty bastard had the audacity to laugh. I flashed him a grin, showing him my canines. I crouched low, preparing for a fight. He grinned wide, "I'm not going to fight you, wolf. But," he pointed behind me with a nod. "They won't hesitate to kill you right here. Just come with me, and we can talk about your brother, Luca." I froze, Luca. I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes, but I wouldn't let them fall, not in front of this nasty bloodsucker.

His smile faltered and he flashed fang. He wasn't playing anymore. The only people behind me were two more vampires. I was a lone wolf, trying not to get herself killed, while searching day and night for her brother that was taken away from her. I kept my eyes on him while I turned, smelling the air. A hint of cinnamon, jasmine and lilies. I didn't know this wolf. I turned fully, my gaze flickering to the new wolf. He was fighting a vampire, while the other lay on the ground, his heart lying next to him. This guy knew how to fight.

I stood stalk still, stunned as I watched this man beat the vamp senseless. My eyes went wide when I felt a strong grip on my forearm, ripping me from my thoughts. I turned to see the vampire behind me, trying to take me with him as he fled like the little bitch that he was. I screamed and writhed in his arms, but he was stronger than me. I flailed my arms around and punched him in the nose. "Bitch!" His nose was bleeding profusely, the scent of it strong in the air. His eyes were crimson, I knew he was pissed. He had let go of my arm, giving me an opportunity to take a few steps back. I bumped into the rubble riddled table, stumbling.

I couldn't stop myself from falling. I thrashed my arms around, trying to grip something to hold on to. I closed my eyes tight, not wanting to see the devastation to come. But it never came. Instead, I felt strong hands grab the front hem of my shirt and pull me upright. My eyes flew open at the movement. It was the wolf from earlier! His shirt was ripped in the front and he had blood on his face and arms. I took in several deep breaths, attempting to calm myself. Of course, it didn't work. I felt the tears well up in my eyes once again, but I didn't fight them this time. I couldn't stop the whimpers and cries that escaped my throat.

He pulled me into his arms and rubbed my back, telling me that everything would be alright. I shook my head furiously, fighting him. He growled, telling me to stop. His threat sounded a lot like that of an Alpha's. I stopped fighting him and melted into his warm chest. The sobs tore through me, making me tremble. He held the nape of my neck against him, not letting loose. But I didn't care, the comfort was all I needed. Even though he was bloodied and beaten, he didn't seem all that bad.

After a while, my sobs slowed, my breathing evened out. A hiccup here and there. We had fallen to the floor and were now leaning against the wall. I lifted my head and used my sleeve to wipe my face. My mascara had smeared all over my cheeks and I was sure I looked like an ax murder victim. I sniffled and looked up at him. This was the first time I had got to take a good look at him. He had midnight black hair, spiked up in the front. His eyes were a deep blue color almost black. I worked my way down and was glad because this guy was ripped. His biceps bulged from his torn shirt, his veins popping out. He had a broad chest, and I could make out a six pack through his tight fitting shirt.

I must have been gawking because a low rumble came from his chest. It took me several seconds to realize that he was laughing at my reaction. I growled back and glared hard. He smiled softly and I swear my heat either stopped working or it melted right there in my chest. I sniffled and wiped my eyes again, the tears still coursing down my face. I was seated with my ass on the floor and I was leaned on his chest, both my legs in between his. "Close your mouth or something will fly in it." My gaze snapped to his, mouth and eyes wide. I closed my mouth and continued to glare. He chuckled again and looked around the bar. "Oh, what have you gotten yourself into, little wolf?"

It looked like a tornado came through here. There were two dead vampires laying on the ground. The two that were behind me had their hearts beside them. I kept looking around, waiting for that other nasty vampire to come back. He must have sensed my anxiety because he put a hand on my shoulder. I looked at him. "What is your name, little wolf?" "F-Fay." He smiled, "My name is Aatos Diamonte, pack Alpha." He stopped smiling and turned serious. "Fay?" My gaze flickered to him. "Yes, Alpha?" I nibbled on my bottom lip, awaiting his answer. I didn't know he was an Alpha and I was gawking! He used his thumb and removed my lip from my teeth.

"What pack do you belong to?" My eyes went wide. The one question I was afraid he was going to ask. The one question I dreaded most. The truth was, I didn't have a pack. I was a lone wolf, trying to survive. I was cast out from my old pack because I had rejected the Alpha. He was the biggest, meanest and dumbest man I had ever known. Even my late father thought so, well, at least before he ripped his heart out of his chest, during a challenge. My father knew the cost, yet he still did it. For me and Luca. No way in hell I was ever going to be his mate! "Fay, I need to know. If you tell me, I can get you home. Back to your pack." "No!" I yelled and tried to pull away from him. His expression turned to confusion. "Why wouldn't you want to go home?" The water works began again.

I took a deep breath. "I don't want to go back, because I can't." One of his brows lifted. "What do you mean you can't?" I mumbled. "I was cast out of the pack, sent away by the Alpha." His expression turned hard. He spoke through gritted teeth. "Why?" He practically growled it. "Because... Because I rejected him as my mate." He sucked in a breath and I lost control. "I didn't want to be with him! He didn't love me, all he wanted to do was use me! He would never love me!" He pulled me back into his chest and rubbed circles into my back. Even though he was an Alpha, his demeanor was only calm. Most Alphas were mean, stupid and reckless. Aatos wasn't any of things, as far as I could tell.

Finally I asked, "How did you find me? Why are you looking for me?" He pushed me into a sitting position. I crossed my legs, still recovering from my crying fest. He began. " Three months ago, I got a call. From your Alpha, he said that you had run away." I scoffed. He continued, "I told him I could help, on one condition," I raised my brows. "That you join my pack." My mouth fell open, but I quickly closed it again. "Please, continue." "I obtained some knowledge that you were seen in this bar, just two days before. I wrinkled my nose. I knew I should have left, but these guys had really good bourbon. He saw my expression, and continued. "I figured you were going to fight me on taking you to my pack, but when I got here I smelled trouble. Quite literally." He looked around at the bodies and the now destroyed bar. "When I walked inside, you were going head to head with one of the most dangerous vampires in the territories. I thought for sure he was going to eat you up and spit you back out."

I had absolutely no idea who he was talking about. He saw my confusion. "The vampire you were fighting, his name was Dusty Malcom." Dusty Malcom. Now I knew who he was talking about, and it didn't help the situation much either. He was still alive, and would most likely come back to try and kill me again. "Known mostly for-" I cut him off. "Assassinations?!"
