Dean's POV

Life really does flash before your eyes just before you die. I was running, and before I knew it, I was on the ground soaked in blood.

"Dean? I'm home! I brought you some dinner," my father walked inside and closed the door behind him. Sitting in kitchen, I ignored him. He had been out drinking again.

I shouldn't complain. He doesn't beat me or anything. It's just...Ever since my mom died, he's been drinking. Her death was hard on both of us.

"Dean? What's wrong?" my father set a bag on the table and looked at me. My hands turned to fists at my side, and I looked to the floor.

"You weren't there. The biggest game of my life, and you missed it," I said quietly. He sat down in front of me and sighed.

"Dean, it's just a game. I'm sorry," he said carelessly. Fury burned inside me. I shot up and glared at him.

"No, you're not! Oh, and I also had to wait in the rain for someone to pick me up...And no one did! You weren't there. Do you have any idea how far, not to mention where, I had to walk? Obviously not. Cause you were too busy drinking your problems away..." looking away, I shook my head.

"Dean, I'm sorry. What more do you want from me?" my father asked.

"NO YOU'RE NOT!" I flung my fist at him, flames coming out and nearly frying his face. His eyes widened.

Oh, I forgot to mention. My dad's an Aqua Raider, and he had no idea I harnessed the ability to control fire.

"Dean...You're... One of them," he spat. Then he lunged at me. Dodging his attack, I ran out the back door.

"Get back here!" he yelled behind me. I kept running, with no idea where to go. But I couldn't stop. Not now. Not ever.

Eventually, I came to an unfamiliar village. There was a scream nearby, and footsteps headed my way. Soon enough, a lady came into view, carrying a toddler.

As soon as she saw me, she ran my way. I was too shocked to do anything. Once she got close enough, she handed me the toddler and looked me in the eye.

"Please, you have to take him. He's normal, but I'm not. Th-The Aqua Raiders are coming," she cried. Then it hit me. She was a fire controller, and she wanted to protect her child.

I knew I had to help her. She was the kind of parent I longed for, so she didn't deserve to loose her child.

"Don't worry. I'll take good care of him," I whispered quickly.

"Th-Thank you! I love you, Mason," she kissed his forehead and ran off. He was definitely too young to know what was going on.

That's why I told him we were brothers. I didn't want him to face the reality that his mother, someone who cared about him, was killed by Aqua Raiders.

"DEAN!" Scarlet screamed and ran towards me. But it was too late. An Aqua Raider had shot me, and I knew I wasn't going to survive. Soon everything around me was black.

When I woke up, everything around me looked different. Like...The mansion had been burned to the ground. There was a cough nearby, and I looked at where it came from.

A man stood over me, then knelt down.

"I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but i don't think you're gonna make it," he said apologetically. Coughing, I nodded in agreement.

"But since you're here, you must know Scarlet. Is she near?" he asked.

"I...I think," I replied weakly.

"Thank you for helping her when I couldn't," were the last words I ever heard. After a few more coughs, I took the last breath I would ever take.
