As we walked out of the store, Mason examined his new sword. "This thing is awesome!" he smiled, swinging it left and right.
"Wow. What kind of family are you from?" I laughed. "Dean's a fire controller, and you're a swordsman," I stopped, realizing what I had said. Mason's smile disappeared.
We continued to walk, not exactly knowing our destination. For the next few minutes, we were silent. Til' I spoke up.
"He'd be proud," I smiled at Mason. He smiled back at me, but it was sad. The look on his face said it all. He missed his brother. Without him, he was miserable. It may of seemed okay, but deep down he was hurting. Bad.
"Aw, what's with the long faces? I wasn't gone that long," a familiar voice called behind us. Mason and I spun around, simultaneously facing Gareth.
"Don't look into his eyes!" Mason yelled as he ran up to Gareth, sword in hand.
"Got it!" I called, ready to attack. Mason swung his sword, missing Gareth's chest by an inch. Gareth jumped back, laughing.
"You're good, but not good enough," Gareth glared at Mason. I took their hatred for each other as a chance to sneak up behind Gareth.
"Oh, really?" I asked, penetrating Gareth's back with hot, raging flames. He cried out and fell forward.
Recovering almost instantly, Gareth got up and lunged at the closest thing he saw...Mason.
He tackled him to the ground. Mason swung his sword, and they continued to fight. They were moving so fast, I was scared to do anything. If I shot a flame at the wrong time, it could hit Mason.
The two got up and kept attacking. Before I could run to them, Mason shoved Gareth.
I stepped back in order to avoid having Gareth crash into me. Then I realized something. I was on an edge. Looking behind me, I saw a blue horizon. Just below me were waves crashing against sharp, raggedy rocks. Had I taken one more step back, I would have fallen to my death.
"Get off of me!" Mason yelled. I turned to look back at him, but instead I locked eyes with Gareth. He tilted his head and smiled.
"Scarlet...Jump."
