Scarlet Flame

Chapter 21

"Whoah." Xavier dodged my attack. Aiming for his side, I kicked a flame at him. Again, he dodged. "Be careful where you aim those things." Xavier gave a worried smile.

"Why should I? You've done nothing but lie to me!" I continued to throw fire at him. "My mother died for what? A fake guardian?"

"This isn't at all how I thought you would react. Listen, Scarlet. It was your mother's decision. Besides, I kept my word. I haven't let the Aqua Raiders kill you, have I?" Xavier held his hands up, locking eyes with me.

"Look, Scarlet, I know you're upset, but...The guy's got a point," Mason spoke up. Turning to him, my gaze softened. He walked towards me, only to fall to the ground. Behind him was an Aqua Raider.

"Mason!" I started toward him, but Xavier held me back. "Run! I've got him." Xavier pushed me aside and ran towards Mason. In the distance, I could see numerous Aqua Raiders on their way. "Run!" Xavier yelled again.

As much as I hated to, I obeyed him. It only took a few seconds to reach the woods. If Xavier kept to his word, he would have Mason out of there in no time. After all, it was me the Aqua Raiders were after.

"Forget him! In the woods!" One of the Aqua Raiders yelled behind me. Quickly, I thought of a plan. I stopped, turned around, and flung as much fire as I could forward. It would slow the Aqua Raiders down, not to mention the smoke's assistance in covering me.

As I listened to the yells of frustration behind me, I continued to run. To my surprise, it was easy to escape. About twenty minutes later, I came across something interesting.

There was a small hut surrounded by trees in front of me. Looking closer, I discovered that someone lived here, and would soon be back. There were old pencils, papers, wrappers, and trash scattered all over the ground. But the only thing I paid attention to was an envelope laying just outside the entrance of the hut.

After I picked it up and opened it, I was amazed at what I saw. It was a hand drawn map of the forest. Whoever was living there had been there a while.

"Put that down," a young, female voice spoke from behind me. I spun around to face the girl. She looked to be about eleven years old. Her blonde hair, surprisingly, appeared to be brushed and clean.

"W-who are you?" I asked, putting the map in its envelope and tossing it to her. She caught it, eyeing me cautiously.

"Who are you? And what are you doing in my woods?" The girl snapped. Wow. I know she's young and all, but...Rude!

"Scarlet. I'm... Uh...Running." Apparently my answer wasn't satisfying. She put her hand on her hip and stared at me.

"Running from what? And why?"

"Aqua Raiders." I hesitated, but continued. "I can control fire." Demonstrating, I held out my hand and showed her a flame. She watched in awe, then looked up at me.

"Come on," she grabbed my other hand and led me inside the hut.

Finally updated. I apologize for the long wait. I've been very busy. And, I've been on this thing called PicCollage. It's amazing. If you join, or have one, follow me- AnimeNerd9704.
