Annabel's POV:
"Annabel, what choice did I have?" Calum retorts. "Those men were armed; if I didn't kill them, they could've killed one of us and if they didn't succeed in kidnapping you, they would've followed us to the corporation," he explains.
"Oh my gosh, I'm an activist in a murder," I cry.
"Annabel," Calum chuckles. Why is he laughing? "Right now, that's the least of our problems, ok? You've done nothing wrong and everything is going to be alright," he reassures me.
"Okay," I reply, taking a deep breath and rubbing my temples. During the drive back to the F.B.I., I close my eyes to rest for a little, but my little cat-nap is interrupted by Calum...
"Hello, can I please have two orders of the 'Taco Supreme' and two Baja Blasts?" I open my eyes and sit up, confused. As my vision resurfaces, I see that we're at a Taco Bell and a small smile forms on my face. "We may have 5-star meals back at the F.B.I., but nothing beats a Taco Bell run," Calum smirks and I can't fight the urge to lean over and hug him... So, I do.
"Thank you," I murmur against his chest.
"Thank you," he retorts.
----
Calum and I enjoy our tacos in the kitchen while we play a game of Rummy. As of right now, I have the Jack, King, and Ace of Hearts left and I'm just waiting for the Queen of Hearts and I'll be out. "Your turn," Calum pipes up. I draw a card, but it's only a lousy 3 of Clubs, so I add it to the row of cards up for grabs, although neither of us seem to be interested in any of the cards on display. Now, it is Calum's turn; he draws a card and I take note of how his eyes shine a little brighter at the sight of it... Dammit, he has something up his sleeve. So, he decides to keep the card he drew and lay down... the Queen of Hearts! But, not before laying down the 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 of Hearts and declaring, "I'm out!" I curse under my breath, seeing as I'll have to subtract 35 points from my total amount of points.
"I have 65 points," I mutter.
"Well, I've won with an outstanding 125 points," Calum boasts and I fight the urge to shove him, so I simply roll my eyes.
"Let's play a round of Spit," I offer.
"Perhaps we shall tomorrow, but for now, I'm going to bug out and go to bed; I'm awfully tired," Calum replies.
"Alright, good night. I'm going to stay up and watch a little television before bed," I tell. Calum nods his head before disappearing into his room. As soon as his door closes behind him, I grab a jacket, slip on my pair of Van's, and snatch up Calum's keys before silently slipping out the door.
----
Two hours later, I park the car and step out, shutting it quietly and striding over to the place my mind has been on all day; Kole's grave. Once I reach it, I kneel down and graze my fingers over the grass. "Good evening, Kole," I greet him. "I know I shouldn't have snuck-out, but I could never fall asleep tonight without giving you a proper goodbye. I'll make it quick because I don't want Calum to notice my absence and worry, but I just wanted to remind you that I love you and I miss you very much, ok? I want you to stay strong and hang in there because before you know it, I'll be right beside you and we'll be reunited. So, with that, I bid you farewell and good night, my sweet Kole. I love you," I say, kissing my fingertips and brushing them against the tombstone. I linger for a moment before standing and beginning to walk back towards the car.
"Annabel, isn't it past your bedtime?" I hear a voice call and immediately freeze.
"Who is it?" I ask, still frozen.
"I don't think Calum would be very pleased to learn that you've snuck out," another voice taunts.
"Who is it?" I ask again, raising my voice slightly.
"Turn around," the 1st voice replies. I gulp and take a deep breath before doing so. When I do, my eyes widen at the recognition of the two men from the cemetery earlier this evening.
"Innocent, naive Annabel has fallen right into our trap," the 2nd man smirks. "What a shame," the 1st one smirks as well.
"What? How? When?" I stammer. "How is this even possible? Calum killed both of you this afternoon," I whisper, my teeth chattering in pure fear.
"Think again," the 1st man replies, letting out an evil laugh.
