chapter 6 - pain

Damien felt like he had ice pumping through his body instead of blood as he watched the bullet plunged itself into Pumpkin's chest, making her scream in pain.

Pumpkin felt searing pain as she placed her hand over her chest, trying to stop the bleeding. Blood came out like a geyser exploding. Damien felt the adrenaline pulsing through his body and he knocked away the three men holding him down. He ran towards Pumpkin and he got ready to help Pumpkin.

Zack smirked at this interaction mind he walked away, finished with his revenge from Damien's blackmail. "Let's go." He roughly ordered his men. They obeyed and they left Damien alone with a bleeding Pumpkin.

"I don't want to die." Pumpkin tells Damien as Damien calls 911.

"You won't. You are my reason and my life. You will not die." Damien swore to Pumpkin.

"Why does it feel that way, then. I'm sleepy." Pumpkin weakly mumbled, making Damien panic.

"No, you can't fall asleep, Pumpkin. Stay awake. Stat with me, Pumpkin. I...I love you, Esmeralda." Damien finally admitted to Pumpkin.

Pumpkin was very happy to hear those three words from her roommate, crush and protector. "I love you too." She responded, closing her eyes.

With a roar of rage and pain mixed together, Damien was pulled back from Pumpkin as the paramedics worked on her. Damien was in a state of grief. "Hey, are you her lover?" One of the paramedics asked Damien. He nodded, mutely. He rode with her on the way to the hospital.

"That's good. She's alive. I guess the shock had just gotten to her and she passed out. Thankfully, despite the amount of blood, the bullet didn't hit any of her organs." He tells Damien, who was hit with relief. He could breathe easily now.

"Will she need stitches?" He asked.

"Not at all, but she will need to stay with us for at least one week." He tells Damien. He understood that and he called Roger.

"Get over here, now." His voice left no move for argument, but Roger wasn't going to argue anyway. He hung up the phone.

"Come down, Alana. Damien wants us at the hospital." Roger tells his daughter.

"Did he get shot?" She asked.

"No, but Pumpkin did." Alana immediately glowered at her father.

"This better not be your fault, Dad." She warns Roger, who reassured her that it wasn't his fault, but internally, he thought that it maybe his fault in the first place.

They went to the hospital where Damien confronted Roger. "Did you write the notes?" He coldly asked. Roger knew that he didn't have anything to do with the notes.

"No, but I did tell Tegan where you were going." He admitted. Damien glowered at him, but then, he relaxed.

"Tegan doesn't know anything about me, other than that I'm dangerous. Did you tell him anything important?" Damien demanded.

"No! Why would I? You're my boss!" Roger tells Damien. Damien merely stared at him and Roger realized that Damien didn't believe him.

"Well, you told Tegan. How do I know that you didn't tell anyone else?" Damien questioned Roger. Roger pulled out his gun and he shot at Alana, who managed to receive Lady Luck.

"What the hell, Roger?!" Alana shrieked angrily at Roger. Damien was surprised at the turn of events, but he didn't show it.

"You know too much." Roger says, about to shoot at her again, but Alana was faster. The bullets plunged themselves into his chest, making him lurch forward. He onto the floor, lifeless. Because, there was no one around to see the murder, Alana was safe from the police.

One of the doctors came up to them. "Crooked man?" He asked Damien.

"You know what to do." He tells the doctor. The doctor nodded and he got to work removing the body.

Alana didn't feel anything when she shot the man dead. She was trained to shoot people dead. She turned to look at Damien. "Pretending to be a lost kid is infuriating, even if I am a lost kid." Alane tells Damien.

"Don't worry, you're like sixteen. Sorry I played rough with you." Damien tells Alana.

"It's fine. It's not like I care as long as my sentence disappears." Alana tells Damien. Damien simply stared at her. "How is she?" Alana asked.

"She's fine. The bullet didn't hit anything major and she doesn't need stitches." Damien's words put a warm and genuine smile on Alana's face.

"That's good, but the important thing is, you've confessed to her, didn't you?" Alana asked in a unnatural bout of playfulness.

However, Damien knew the unnatural bout of playfulness was bound to come sooner or later. "Well, I thought she was going to die." Damien tells Alana.

"Mood killer." Alana immediately got back serious. "So, her real name is Esmeralda? It's beautiful." She comments to Damien.a

"Just like her." He responded. Alana got serious.

"Y'know, the job you've gave me, I couldn't find any traces. Like, there is literally nothing to find and I hate it." Alana tells Damien, running a hand through her hair.

"Don't get too angry over it." He tells Alana, who simply glared at him.

"Too late for that." She tells him, making him stare at her with a strange look.

"I know. Let me just call it off. I keep on putting her in danger." Damien says, gazing at the room that Pumpkin was sleeping in peacefully.

"Maybe whoever it is is done with you by now." Alana tells him, but Damien shook his head.

"I refuse to believe that. I have many enemies and now, that I have a lover, they'll be gunning for her as well." Damien tells Alana.

"She changed you, that's obvious." She commented. Before he even met the sweet shortie, he shot at everything and everyone. But, now, he's this noble demon. She thought, shaking her head slightly.

"I'm sure you can find a nice, young man that loves you for you." Damien tells Alana, who was shocked at his words.

"Look at you! Giving me hope about a future lover. However, I don't do romance." Alana tells Damien, who just smirked at her.

"I was like that once." He tells her. Alana simply smiled at him. You have a girl that fell for you at first sight. No sane 16 year old is going to fall for me. She thought to herself.

"Remember, I don't do romance." Alana tells him.

It was a peaceful time.
