Alby took me to the kitchens and left me there, "How nice." I saw Minho grumbling and walked over and sat across from him. "You left me with the admiral." He snorted and moved his plate so I could pick up the apple off his plate. I took a bite out of it and he studied me.
"You're strange."
"I prefer the term outlandish. It's a different word for strange."
"I gathered that much kid."
"So, is there going to be a council meeting tonight?"
"Yeah, we just don't know where to put you. I don't think many of the boys would want you on the floor."
"On the way here you mentioned you having the biggest room? Couldn't I make a hammock and bunk with you?"
"That's-not a bad idea."
"I'm smart Minho, keep up." I smirked as I continued to munch on the bright red fruit. It was soon dinner and I was still at the table with Minho chatting up a storm. It was cut off by gasps and murmurs, I could tell it was about me. "Bloody hell, you'd think I was some sort of alien."
"In a way you kind of are." I gave him a short look out of the corner of my eye. "That's not a bad thing, Ro. I mean you're the only girl awake and the youngest person here."
"I bet they're wondering where I came from. Wait, you're having another gathering today?"
"What? How did you know?"
"You thought aloud when we were running back. So who's Ben?"
"He's a builder, sometimes he helps run the maze. He attacked the greenie, we're banishing him," I winced, I've seen the banishings well I've seen the outcomes. "I know you've probably heard the banishing."
"I have, Minho, I don't know any of you that well but to be honest and no offense, I have other things on my mind and that boy's banishing is the least of my worries."
"Your friend, Al. You told me about him."
"Yeah, he's well. How do I bloody explain somebody that I've never met face to face?"
"Don't know but keep talking, I'm listening." A boy with an accent like mine said as he sat down. A boy with strange eyebrows sat across from him and next to Minho. Another boy sat next to me he had bad acne and was rather short and slightly muscular. A boy sat on the other side of Minho with black hair that was already going gray, he was short as well. Lastly a boy sat on the other side of the accented guy. He had black hair, droopy eyes with a long face. He was tall as well unlike a few of the boys.
"I'm going to take a guess and say you're the keepers with Minho," they nodded. Then I pointed to the accented boy next to me, "And you're the second in command around here?" He nodded looking slightly impressed.
"Who the shuck are you?" The eyebrow boy asked me.
"Name is Ro, shuck-face." I snapped.
"Look you've been here for less than a day! You don't know what you're doing!" He was drawing more attention than we already had as his voice began to raise.
I chuckled and Minho snorted. "Gally, she's been here longer than us. WE are the greenies to her. She's the veteran to us." So Gally was his name eh?
"He's right. I've been here five years, I was seven when I first arrived and now I'm twelve. I avoided you guys because when I was running the maze I heard the same alarm that brought me up from the box. I watched a bunch of teenage boys come out about two to three years ago."
"Why didn't you help us?" The second in command questioned.
"I was nine, I think. I thought you were going to kill me. So I avoided you and lived my life in the maze only ever to be seen now."
"So you know the way out of the maze?" The acne boy asked. I shook my head with a frown. "No clue?"
"Ideas but they're really strange." I said simply. "Any of you going to introduce your selves? I mean I know mister eyebrows but the rest of you I don't know."
The second in command smirked and looked around, "I'm Newt, the guy with acne is Winston. The guy next to me is Clint. You know Minho, oh and that's Zart."
"Pleasure to meet you."
"Now you going to tell us who Al is?"
"Well, he's my first friend. I have a telepathic link with him. He's in my shoes in an icy maze filled with girls instead of boys. He's my age as well, I haven't heard from him lately and it's worrying me. He contacts once a day and if not once a week. He hasn't contacted in about a month." I bit my lip subconsciously like I normally did.
"You think something bad happened to him?" Minho said looking over.
"Yeah, about two months he told me he was going to the girls, trying to help them out. I tried talking him out of it but he's so freaking stubborn! But he's smart, hopefully smart enough to know what was going on."
"I think you're getting worried, if he's anything like you then you're fine."
"Thanks," I paused for a second. "I guess. So runner boy, why did you go near it?"
"Near what? What's she talking about Minho?" Newt asked looking between me and the Keeper of Runners.
"Yeah, aren't you going to tell them?" I gave a sly look that he glared at.
Minho grumbled something that no one could hear so I did the most logical thing, I kicked him. It wasn't like a playful kick is was a very mean and hard kick. He gave a yelp and glared at me as I played innocent. This got laughs from the keepers and the onlookers. "Well, the shank saved my butt. I may or may not have accidently hurt her but I thought she worked for the creators. Let's just say that you'll find out at the council meeting."
"She going to be a keeper of something?" Gally asked his voice slightly cold.
"Maybe, I wouldn't know." I snapped back.
"Watch your tone."
"Make me, eyebrows." He got up and left while I smiled victoriously. "Looks like I win." I snickered. He tossed a glare at me which I rolled my eyes at. Looks like things just got interesting and it's because he got provoked.
