Change Is In The Air Chapter 2

Jungkook gets back to ER and sits down at the nurses station exasperated and running his fingers through his thick black hair.

"So what's the story?" A Patient Care Tech (PCT) asks Jungkook.

"Nothing...again.  Just Mirae."  He says looking down at the list of patients still in ER either waiting for orders, a room, or discharge.  A one-year old with an ear infection (orders), a patient with chest pain and abnormal labs (a room), and hospital hopper trying to get his next fix of pain medications (discharge).  The ER is unusually not busy, especially for a Friday night and a full-moon but he knows better than to talk about it because that will jinx the whole atmosphere and all hell will break loose.

"You mean she's still tryin' to fuck ya?" the PCT says.  "Geez!  Sorry dude!  You ever thought about checking out the other team?

"Nope, not once."  Jungkook says.

"Wow." said the PCT "Most of the gay guys I knew tried something at least once."

"Nope.  No desire to.  Not interested.  I likes my mens."  Jungkook says with a giggle. "What about you?  Ever thought of checking out the home team?"

"Yeah, that would be a big negatory, Chief."  The PCT says emphatically.

"How do you know what you're missing if you don't try it?"  Jungkook coos jokingly.

"I could ask you that same question and what would the answer be?" The PCT says.

"Can't miss what I don't know and I don't want to know that." Jungkook says smirking. "I'll let you hets have AAALLL the fun."  Jungkook gets up and walks over to his mailbox to pull out the odd assorted pieces of hospital information for employees and goes back to sit at the desk. 

He begins to rifle through the papers and sees a notice for a department meeting in 3 days in the staff lounge.  He thinks to himself "well there's an abysmal waste of time and resources."  Half the time the meetings are nothing more than information that could have been given in an e-mail or notice.  You can't avoid them because they are mandatory. They are only mandatory in name because if you're in the middle of code...are you really gonna stop CPR for a damn staff meeting? The header on the top reads "Change Is In The Air" with the subheader saying "a breath of fresh air to come" but nothing more specific.  As if being intentionally vague would make sure the employees showed up for the meeting.  Jungkook wouldn't even hazard a guess because the hospital had been in transition with many things over the last two years.  New equipment, new departments, new policies, new everything.

They finally clear out the ER only to have the police bring in two drunks in a bar fight over some tore-up girl.  They went at each other like she was the last flat-screen TV on sale during Black Friday at WalMart.  They were both beat, broken, bruised and bleeding...profusely.

Jungkook sighed to himself and called for the PCT to help him get one of the patients in one room and restrained then get the other in another room.  A cursory ask of any allergies to both with the answer being "No."  Jungkook got a quick order for some Ativan and dosed both their happy asses into oblivion to get them to sleep it off.  Then...all hell broke loose.  It was 4:30 in the morning when 3 ambulances showed up with patients from a car wreck, a heart attack patient, and a mother in pre-term labor.  That shot the rest of his night and all Jungkook could do was pray for 7:05a.m. to get there so he could head home.

Jungkook worked night shift at the hospital because it gave him time during the day to pursue his interests in dancing and singing.  When 7:05a.m. arrived and report given, Jungkook jumped on his motorcycle and drove home to get cleaned up.  He was meeting Hoseok to go over some new choreography after he was meeting up with another friend Yoongi who was doing some sound recordings for some music he wrote and he wanted Jungkook for background vocals.  Yoongi loved Jungkook's voice because it was so pure and he had an amazing falsetto voice that could hit some astounding high notes.  Fortunately, he was off tonight so he didn't have to worry about getting some sleep right away.
