Unfamiliar Ground Chapter 32

Jimin and Jungkook flew into San Francisco International Airport first class on Korean Air.  They were two very weary travelers after getting off of the plane and only wanted to find food and a comfortable bed.  Never mind the fact it was 11:30a.m. Pacific Standard Time.  After getting their luggage they found their driver who would take them to their hotel.  Joseph was their driver and he was second generation Korean-American and spoke fluent Korean.  He held a small tablet with the names "Park/Jeon" on it near the luggage carousel.

"Park, Jeon?" Jimin says.

"Yes, sir.  I'm your driver Joseph.  I'll be taking you to your hotel.  If you'll follow me I will take you to the car and I will load your luggage for you." He said in perfect Korean.

"Kamsahamnida."  Jungkook said as they bowed and followed the tall slender gentlemen to a black Lincoln Continental with tinted windows.  Jimin and Jungkook got inside the car and waited patiently as Joseph put their luggage in the trunk of the car.  Then he got in the front seat and preceded to take them to Palo Alto.

"Gentlemen, the University has given you access to a car to assist you in getting around while you are here.  It will be at the hotel, so if you choose to go out and explore you have reliable and good transportation to do so.  The Fellowship Coordinator also wanted me to inform you there is an agenda of meetings and functions that the fellows are requested to attended.  Some are just for the fellow and others are mixers, lunches and dinners to help everyone get to know who is involved in the Fellowship Program."  Joseph stated.

"Thank you Joseph."  Jimin said politely looking at Jungkook impressed.

"No problem sirs.  It is my pleasure."  Joseph returns.

"Baby, look the traffic is as bad here as it is at home."  Jungkook says laughing.  He takes Jimin's hand and just stares out the window of the car as they travel south down the 101 freeway.  Jungkook is in awe at how many trees there are versus all of the buildings.  Seoul has so many buildings and so few trees until you get way from the city area.  Unlike Seoul where residential and Commercial space is shared in California it is separated with residential areas and commercial areas which to Jungkook made everything look spaced out.  An hour later they are pulling under the awning of an Embassy Suites hotel.

When they get out of the car, Joseph hands them both electronic cards with the room number on them.  They don't have to go through the hassle of checking in as that was done prior to their arrival.  Joseph does assist them with their luggage to their room.  They have a beautiful room on the 8th floor that they can see the San Francisco bay.

"Sirs the packet of information for you is in the yellow envelope on the table there along with the keys to the car downstairs.  It is parked in space B32, which is 2nd level of the parking structure.  If you choose not to eat out the University has added a meal stipend for the room and you are welcome to order room service.  If there is anything else I can do for you do not hesitate to call as I am also assigned to you as concierge for services you may require as you get settled.  Welcome to California, Stanford University, and the San Francisco Peninsula.  Please enjoy your day.  OH!  Here's my card for you to contact me at anytime.  Again sirs, my pleasure."  Joseph shakes there hands and leaves the room.

Though they are tired they feel like they are being given the royal treatment.  Jimin goes over to the table and opens the envelope and pulls out an agenda.  He notices there is a Fellowship mixer that evening.

"Aegiya, there is a mixer tonight I think I should attend.  I need to start learning all of the other Doctors  I will be working with during this fellowship." Jimin says.

"Aish! Baby!  I'm not sure I'm ready for that.  I mean my English is still not so good and I want to make a good impression for you.  I don't think I could do that after just getting off of a plane.  Right now all I want is something to eat.  They have Burger Kings here do you think we can grab some burgers and then come back and rest a bit?  I know you probably should go but can you go without me."  Jungkook says exhausted.
