It was our first date. We hadn't talked much, but he said I was cute and nice and fun to be around.
He pulled up into my driveway in his old car, wearing a lime green jacket, blue shirt, and black pants.
He looked at my house for a few seconds, his neck craned to take in the two stories.
He padded up to the front door, watching his feet as he walked, occasionally looking side to side.
I remember the doorbell ringing. I remember opening the door and smiling.
He was shy. He ran a hand through his fluffy hair and smiled, "Hey, Thea."
I smiled back and softly replied, "Hi."
I stepped out onto the front steps as he closed the door behind me.
"Where are we going," I asked as we climbed into his car. He waited to respond until he closed my door, walked to the other side, opened his door and sat down, and buckled his seatbelt.
He looked at me before softly saying, "Some place that's really special to me."

The whole drive he couldn't stop smiling. I couldn't figure out what was so funny, but maybe it wasn't funny at all.
We ended up in a thick wood outside of town. The car bumped along down the rutted dirt road until we found a small dirt parking lot.
He opened my door and offered me his arm, "M'lady," and laughed a little.
"Why, thank you," I breathed a small laugh and accepted his offer.
We walked for what seemed like forever.
But soon enough, a small structure high up in a tree came into view.
I snorted a little.
He snorted, too.
