Chapter Thirteen

  His Confession. My Answer.

I glanced at the photo on my lap as I wore a smile. It felt satisfying to thrash that woman really hard. I was glad that we stood by each other throughout the heated fight.

And, I was starting to contemplate whether I should stop pushing him away from me.

After all, he is my mate. The one who will protect me, cherish me and love me with all his heart. It sounded cheesy but it was something which I needed to bring me out of the mess I was in.

"What are you thinking?" He asked out of the blue, placing the first aid kit on one side. I shrugged my shoulders and looked away. "Nothing." I murmured.

I felt his eyes bore holes through my skull as he leaned in. Instinctively, I leaned backwards as I caught his gaze.

"What the hell are you doing?" My eyebrows furrowed before I winced as my back ached. "Are you okay?" He asked in concern. I watched as he fumbled through the things in the first aid kit, searching for something.

Reaching out for his hand, I held it tightly. "Don't bother to treat it. Let the werewolf genes heal it." I replied, giving him a reassuring smile.

He nodded reluctantly before he held onto my hand tightly. He lifted it and gently kissed on my knuckles. "You have changed." He blurted, making me tilt my head in surprise.

"I can even feel that our bond is getting stronger as the time passes. And the most important thing is, you don't push me away anymore." He smiled, his warm eyes gleaming.

"But the only thing I am in a dilemma is, whether I should leave you to rest or confess my love to you." His last few words made me froze on the spot. I blinked a few times as I registered his words.

Surprisingly, I did not feel terrified and afraid of his question. My heart, however, melted at his words.

"Is this your way of confessing?" I asked, biting onto my lower lip.

"Then, this is my reply to your confession." I grabbed his collar in a split second and claimed his lips.

Unfazed by my action, he grabbed onto my waist tightly and deepened the kiss. Our breath were the only sound that I heard apart from the dripping of water from the tap.

As each of the water droplets reached the surface of the sink, my heart beat even more rapidly.

Unable to breathe anymore, I broke the kiss. I looked away as I caught my breath. I felt my heart racing quickly as each second passed. My heart had never beat that fast for a guy before.

Had I fallen in love with him?

I felt a hand lift my jaws to face him before he leaned in to capture my lips. I blinked a few times before slowly shutting my eyes. His lips were about to capture mine again when pain shot through my body.

Through gritted teeth, I endured the pain which lasted longer than I thought. His face was plastered with worry as he repeatedly asked me what was wrong.

I shook my head vigorously at his questions, trying my hardest not to give in to the pain. The door was flung open with Elena rushing into the room.

Her alert eyes scanned up and down my shaking body before mumbling a word which was the last thing that I wanted to hear. "Heat."

At that point of time, all hell broke loose. I felt a swirling mix of emotions and my hormones going crazy. My wolf was going frenzy as I glanced at Nathaniel.

Reaching out for him, I hugged him tightly. His touch momentarily simmered down the pain, making me sigh in relief. However, the burning sensation was still there.

I looked up to see Nathaniel struggling with his wolf. It seemed as though the scent was unbearable for his wolf and he was going frenzy for me.

I watched as his eyes turned pitch black, his hands reaching out for me. In a split second, I was underneath him as he panted breathlessly. He tilted his head to the side, his eyes focusing on Elena.

"Leave." He ordered. I watched from the corner of my eyes as Elena shook her head vigorously in response. Realisation hit me that we were not allowed to mate during the three stages of heat.

"No, I can't watch my b-best friend become infertile. You have to leave, Nathaniel."

I gave her a gratitude smile in which she returned. Looking up, I squeezed his shoulders in reassurance before propping myself up with the help of the headboard.

Sensing his reluctance, I turned to Elena for help. Getting my signal, she immediately pulled him out of the room. Even if it meant offending him, she had to drag him out.

The moment he was out of my sight, the unbearable pain hit me again. I clenched my stomach as I turned around to find a comfortable spot.

Blinking my tears away, I concluded that the best solution was to get a nap.

"I know you need your sleep but I will leave after saying what I want." I blinked my eyes open, pricking up my ears to listen. "I admit, it was rash of me to coincide with Dion. I thought he was a good man and wanted to pair both of you together." An audible sigh escaped from her lips.

"But, it was all my fault for almost letting him get his way with you. I hope you will accept my apology, Shelly. I don't want to lose you as my friend." Tapping on the mattress lightly, I mulled over her words.

It was great to hear her voice again,

after the things that happened between us...

I woke up to a slight jerk before I sat up. Wiping away the sweat, I looked at the time.

4am.

I sighed, placing my hand on my chest as my heart raced. I had the same nightmare. Again.

Pain shot through my body as I clenched onto the duvets. I need a damn bath to get away from the pain. I quickly rushed to the bathroom before leaving myself in the cold running water.

Sweeping my hair to the back, I tilted my head as the water poured down my face. It felt refreshing. The pain slowly simmered down as the cold water cascaded down my body.

Wiping away the droplets formed on the mirror, I looked at my own reflection. As I mulled over the kiss that we shared earlier, I realised that I did not hesitate when making the choice.

Will I be happy with my choice of loving him? Or will I regret getting entangled in his life?
