Chapter Fifteen

Locked Up

The moment we reached the destination, we were surrounded by patrol border werewolves as they gave us a once-over. One of them recognised Elena and let us passed.

She drove further into the woods until we reached a deserted spot where a high-rise building was located in the middle with electric fence surrounding it.

The patrol werewolves surrounding the perimeter were all females. It made sense that all the males couldn't step close to this place since their wolves would go crazy if the scent hit them.

But, I had a feeling that I wasn't going to like it here.

I was literally separated from Nathaniel and I had to stay in this god damn place for god knows how long before my heat dies down. Now, I really hate the mating system set by the moon goddess.

"We are here." A female guard halted and dug the keys into the keyhole before twisting the doorknob. I was met with a small room with white-washed walls and a built-in bathroom. Surprisingly, they provided a bed.

The moment I stepped into the room, I felt bile rise to my throat as I sped to the toilet bowl and puked out all the contents. A hand patted on my back as I continued puking out, a sick vomit stench filled my nostrils.

This lasted for five minutes before I stood up and washed my face with the cold running water. At least the water here was cooling.

I heard flushing in the background as I looked up and glanced at myself in the mirror. It has been a few days and my cheekbones had sunk in deeply. My face was getting paler as the heat persisted.

"I will visit you again tomorrow, Shelly. Rest well." And with that, she was gone.

I slowly walked to the bed as I laid down. "For your information, 8am, 12pm, 6pm and 10pm are the different meals timing. You will be released from your room for 2 hours each day to stay in the backyard. Visiting hours are only limited to 3 hours each day." The female guard announced before locking the door.

I sighed and shut my eyes tightly as I let sleep consume me.

I woke up to the sound of the keys digging into the door as I sat up and waited for the nurse to bring in the food. I glanced at the untouched meals, looking away as she placed breakfast on the ground before retrieving the meals from yesterday.

"You have to eat. If you don't, you won't be able to survive under the heat. It is going to be very tormenting for you." She sighed before locking the door.

I looked at the food and sighed. She was right. Even if it kills me, I still had to eat to fight against the heat.

I climbed out of the bed and picked up the tray as the aroma of eggs hit me. Pinching my nose, I swallowed the bile that was rising to my throat and stuffed the eggs into my mouth.

I don't taste it. I just let it slide down my throat as I continued to stuff them into my mouth. Because if I do, I will be spending another five minutes in the bathroom, puking out all the contents.

Just as I had finished the meal, I felt the burning sensation again. This time, it was even worse than before. I cringed at the pain and rushed into the shower to cool myself down.

After thirty minutes of standing under the shower, I felt the skin of my fingers wrinkle from the sogginess and decided to stop. Stepping out of the showers, I wrapped a towel over my body as I walked back to the bed.

Elena was standing there patiently with Nathaniel's mother. My eyes widened as I took a few steps back. "It's alright, darling. You don't have to bother to change for us. There's no time to lose." Nathaniel's mother nodded at me.

I nodded, sitting down on my bed as I faced her. "What do you want to say, Mrs..." I trailed off, not knowing Nathaniel's last name. I just realised that I didn't know much about Nathaniel, but I had never regretted falling in love with him though. Strange.

"Call me Melissa will do." She smiled sweetly before fiddling the things in her bag as she took out a letter, handing it to me. "There will be an upcoming war between Rihawth Pack and Gazelle Pack, which is our pack. You will have to be protected from Rihawth's Pack since their Alpha's daughter, Christina wants you dead." I gulped. That woman was so annoying. She even wanted me dead.

"This letter consists of the map layout of this building. Circled in red are the available exits, should you face any danger. There is also a key inside for you to drive the red Porsche which is currently parked in the basement. That is when you have no choice but to escape from this place. The path to the basement is marked in blue for you to follow, it will allow you to reach the basement without getting discovered."

"But why?" I asked, staring at her in astonishment. Truth to be told, I wasn't afraid. I only needed an answer before I decide whether to follow her instructions.

"Because there is a mole in this building and there is information that they will attack this building in one week's time." She firmly nodded at me before the female guard emerged from door and asked them to leave.

"Remember what I have said, Shelly. You need to stay alive for our pack, for Nathaniel." And with that, she left with Elena giving me a depressed smile as she followed behind her.

The door was once again locked as I held onto the letter tightly. I browsed through the letter to find a map and a key but there was something else inside, a note.

I took it out and read it. It was from Nathaniel.

By the time you read this, my mom would have told you everything. Don't do anything rash, just stay safe for the sake of me. You have to escape when you find yourself in danger.

Once the war is over, meet me again in one piece. I love you.
