Chapter Fourteen

Unfazed By The Consequences

I got out of the enclosed shower room reluctantly after seeing my fingers soaked in the cold waters for a very long time.

Reappearing into the room, I froze in my tracks. Elena was trying to hold back a seemingly crazy Nathaniel who lunged for me.

I could feel his breath on my hair as he tried to calm his heartbeat. I gestured Elena to go out for a moment in which she quietly complied.

Turning my attention back to Nathaniel, my hormones suddenly went crazy. I assumed he was behaving like that as well.

"Sorry, Shelly. I am going crazy as each seconds passes. As long as I don't get to see you, my wolf and I will go crazy." He paused, keeping his eyes shut. "Just let me hold you for a moment."

Instinctively, my arms circled around his waist as I held him close to me. For now, I just yearned for his touch. His touch which would simmer down the pain that I was going through on my own.

The door creaked open as a woman in her age of forties watched us. I quickly withdrew from the embrace as I tightened the towel wrapped around my bare body.

"M-Mom." Nathaniel mumbled in surprise. With her hand on her right hip, her eyebrows furrowed. "Nathaniel, we need to talk."

Feeling worried for him, I quickly got out of my room in search of both of them. I was just about to turn a corner when sounds escaped from a room.

"So, both of you are mates?" It was the woman whom Nathaniel addressed as mom's voice. I plastered my ear to the surface of the door as I tried my hardest to listen to their conversation.

"Mom, don't you oppose to us being together?" Nathaniel questioned in what seemed like curiosity. "You fool, how can you say that I oppose to both of you being together? After all, she is your mate."

I cracked a small smile at her answer, quite happy that she wasn't against us being together. I could actually imagine Nathaniel wearing a wide smile on his face right now. He must be over the moon.

"I love you, mom." I cringed at that sentence. Geez, I didn't know Nathaniel would say that to his mom so easily. I wished I could too. But, I never will.

"But, your dad might not be in the same point of view as me." I heard an audible sigh escaped from her lips. "He badly wants that girl, Christina to be your bride."

"All because of money right?" He asked, through gritted teeth. I almost gasped in surprise. I didn't expect Nathaniel's father to be a greedy man. Isn't reigning a large pack good enough for him?

"Unfortunately, it is. And, he knows about the girl." My heart dropped instantly. His father was aware of my existence and yet, persisted on matching him with the Alpha's daughter.

"You know what your father will do if he doesn't get what he wants. He will probably send someone to kill the girl if your stubbornness continues." She sighed.

"So, what do you want from me, mom? You want me to leave her? That is definitely a no." I could feel the presence of his wolf getting all worked up. It was my cue to intervene before things got worse.

Pushing past the door, I slowly made my way to a raging Nathaniel who stared down at his mother, making her look so vulnerable.

Entwining our hands together, my thumb rubbed small circles on the back of his hand.

He looked at me, closing his eyes temporarily. I turned to look at his mom, nodding at her before pulling him back to our room.

The moment I had closed the door, I felt warm arms circled around my waist. His chin rested on my shoulder blade, burying his head in my hair.

"Are you okay?" I blurted, breaking the silence. I could feel that his wolf's anger had slowly dissipated. He withdrew his arms and turned me around as he gave me a once-over.

"Are you concerned about me?" His smile widened. I cracked a small smile at his silliness. "Since you can joke, that means you are okay. I am going to do my laundry chores." Was all I said before I headed to the door.

An arm pulled me into a hard chest, making me gasp in surprise. Arms circled around my waist as he leaned his head against mine. "No, I am not okay. Stay by my side, Shelly." He whispered, his hot breaths tickling the back of my neck.

Laid down beside him, I looked at his peaceful face as he fell fast asleep. Lifting my hands, I tenderly swept his fringe to the back.

My index finger slowly trailed down his cheekbones to his thin stubbles, moving up to his sharp nose to his thick eyebrows.

My wrists was suddenly clutched by his hand, his eyes slowly blinked open. He propped his elbow on the bed as he faced me sideways.

His lightly kissed my knuckles, his stubbles tickling against my skin. "What are you doing, babe?" He grinned. I withdrew my hand and sat up, shrugging my shoulders playfully.

Not long after, sharp pain shot through my whole body as I cringed. "Are you okay?" He asked with worry laced in his words.

My hormones instantly went crazy and my heat was back, seemingly even worse than before. My heat was like a switch. Sometimes on and off.

At this rate, it could drive me crazy.

"Get out of the room, Nathaniel. I will go crazy if you continue to stay here." I pleaded. He seemed to be controlling his wolf as he gritted his teeth while he nodded.

When he was out of the room, I rolled around in bed as I tried my hardest to control my wolf from going crazy. All of a sudden, Elena barged into the room.

"This will not do, Shelly. You have to come with me to a place that will keep you protected from any males while your heat persists." She concluded, frantically searching around the room for a duffle bag.

She threw in a few pieces of clothes and garments, packed with necessities that I would need.

Before long, we were out of the apartment with her arms circled around my waist as she supported me. I was getting frail and weaker as the heat continued.

Getting into her Audi r8, she dumped my duffle bag on the back seat before helping me to strap the seatbelt. She shifted the gear and we sped off, heading to gods knows where.

Wherever she was bringing me, I knew she wanted the best for me. Even if it meant leaving Nathaniel temporarily.
