Author: sorry to those who dont like country but this song fit the mood when I thought of this chapter.
My soft spoken question seems to sit in the air around us as we continue to lock eyes. It seemed silly this feeling I have in my chest while staring at those impossibly gold eyes, something that can be described in children's books. Yet, as I stared into this stranger's eyes, a switched is flipped inside as something screams out at me to not let this person go.
The strangers eyes that seemed to be flowing like honey breathes in deeply and a strange expression crosses his face. Next I knew, those swirling eyes of molten honey harden and looks away.
"Sorry about that, I heard some music while on a walk from home for a moment and couldn't help myself... I'll leave you now..." His voice is as sweet as molasses with a tinge of a southern twang that nearly had me melt on the spot. The strangers stiff shoulders turn to leave, but that switch inside of me has me getting up.
"Wait!" I call out and try to walk closer. But his shoulders, if possible, stiffen further. His soft voice before comes out harsh as he turn and glares at me, stopping my feet in their tracks.
"What?" His expression terrified me but also made me want to get closer. It reminded me of something that had my instincts yelling inside to not get closer to.
"Y-Your name?" His look frightens but does not stop my need to know who he was.
A look crosses his face as he stares into my face, looking for something. "My name... is Jasper Cullen. Nice to meet you" and as quickly as he came, he was gone into the twilight of the woods.
Standing there dumbfounded, his name spins around my mind as I turn to go back to where I was sitting on the blanket. Picking up my guitar, I strum a few cords.
"Jasper huh? Jasper... Cullen... what a nice name..." I hum as I play over the cords of a country love song that popped into my head. Yet as the name Cullen rolls to the forefront, I pause my ministrations.
"Cullen, as in Alice Cullen, the new family that lives down the road from me. A place that's miles from here, how did he end up walking all the way here?" I felt a small shiver run up my spine as I try to think of how he walked all the way here and come up with zero answers that made sense. The most reasonable idea I came up with was that maybe he really enjoys long walks.
"El! You're out here again? Seriously?" Connors voice hollers as he stands near the head of the small trails with his arms crossed and he has his 'you're so lame' look on his face. I just shoot him an annoyed look as I gather up my stuff and walk closer to him.
"Don't you dare judge me Connor O'Bryan. You ditched me as soon as we got here and I refused to take care of another drunk person after I was forced out of my last day of freedom" I huffed at him and walk faster than him to the car. "And let me guess, liz ditched you for whatever his name is?" I question as we get to the car. Instead of an answer, all I hear is a sniffle and all I see is his green eyes fill with tears. Rolling my eyes, I hop in the driver's side and hold out my hand.
"Give me the damn keys and let's go get some icecream and you can tell me all about it." I sigh as all I can think about is: what are best friends for...
Missing the set of hungry gold eyes watching my every move from the treeline.
Yes, those gold eyes that never left. He couldn't leave her alone in the woods for beasts like him may come out and take a bite out of her. Like he almost did when he first smelt her delicious blood. He hears light footsteps behind him as a scent he knows enters his space.
"So, I see you met the reason why I didn't just want to move to a town where my favorite boutique is located" If he couldn't feel her emotions, one could just tell by her tone of voice the large smug smirk on her face. Instead of replying, he just growls and turns to run back home.
"Oh come on Jasper! You can't run from fate! You were born to love her and you can't deny that!" Alice calls out as she chases after her brother for all sense of the word into the dark as midnight forest.
