Bugs: sorry this update has taken awhile, I'm rejuvenating another story of mine called Waiting Game. Was not satisfied with what I had the first time, but now, I must say it's a lot better. So if you like George Weasley fanfiction, then please check it out!

Also, who else is living for The Purest of Cullens? If you're curious, I'll be adding it to my twilight reading list here soon (shocked I haven't done it sooner).

Moments we find ourselves in can change the course we find ourselves on in an instant. Never had Eleanor thought that the things she experienced in the few short months after the first sound of the store bell ringing; would lead her to where she is right now. Learning not only an entire families secret but discovering one of her own that had her gripping the sleeves of her shirt in constant worry. Secrets are a result of extraordinary instances, created by the interactions with oneself in the environment that they are in. And Eleanor is finding herself in one after the next.

But that's the thing about secrets, they can be consuming, heart racing, and hair raising to hold onto. Whether they are to keep someone safe or your own past hidden, keeping them hidden, shrouded even, is exhausting. When the secret Eleanor carried was shared with another, a weight lifted off of her that night. She was happy someone accepted them, even if they themselves were also carrying a secret of their own.

...

It had been a few weeks since that night. We decided to not tell the family about my strange power that manifested that night. Instead, just addressing the fact of the secret they carried. There was some trepidation from some members of the family, but there were others especially welcoming. Bella, in particular, was especially welcoming.

The entire family was just warm. I of course know what it is like to be given that warmth, but there was just something more that can only be seen when the Cullens are able to be themselves.

Esme for instance, liked to hum while cleaning up small messes left behind. The tune was always soothing, and I would find my eyes closing to the sound.

Carlisle, was someone who cared to ask about someone's day. Offering advice when needed, or a smile in understanding. He made me miss my father the most at times.

As a family, they had such a way together, that I was convinced they grew up together. From the light hearted teasing to the hidden understanding of looks shared. Despite all they went through, they are able to share such a connection that ran so deep, that it made a strange tightness arise in my chest when I watch their interactions.

And since that night, the strange golden light had not made a reappearance. It was both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because I was once again able to live in the disguise that everything was normal. A curse because I wanted to find the truth. That I was tired of walking on eggshells as every minute of every day, I question if they will reappear at any moment.

But as time went on, my strange abilities floated to the back of my mind as another instance was beginning to arise.

Slamming the locker close, I lean a shoulder against the cool metal as I run my fingertips through my hair. A sigh escapes my lips as I think of the upcoming date next week.

"El!"

Yelping in panic, I whip around to face the noise to catch Connor with a wide grin. He puts his hands on his hips as he tilts his head.

"Did I scare yeah?" Narrowing my eyes, I notice the glint of mischief in his bright eyes and let out a huff. Turning, I smack my bag into his arm and cause him to let out a whoosh of air.

"Jeez! What's in that thing?!" He complains as he rubs his arm.

"What do you need Connor?" I sigh out, ignoring his complaints.

He grins wide as he wraps his arm around my shoulder, "you should know. It's almost Halloween. Someone's special day." He winks as I realize he is right.

"Shoot, I can't believe how much time has passed! It's my 18th birthday..." I trail off as I become struck at the thought of reaching the big number. A number that defines the line one walks from teenager to young adult. An age I both anticipated but dreaded. A sign of freedom but a type of freedom one feared. A fear of dropping into new territory without ones sheet to deploy; a free falling sensation with the lack of knowledge of when the ground will show.

"And, with comes your oh so important holiday is the celebration many still young in heart enjoy..." At this, I feel my eyes narrow in annoyance. Every year, Connor has made it his goal that I would have a party for my birthday since it fell on October 31. But every year, I have to turn him down. It was the one day I spent all day with family. When my father was still alive, we would have a day of hiking, going to dinner, or watching movies all day. But, we'd always have a certain tradition on the day of my birthday. Visiting that place in our backyard, the Jameason family sanctuary, where the day I visited the golden light appeared...

Rolling my eyes while swallowing the sudden lump in my throat, I knock his hand away where it managed to snake around my neck. "No, you know how my birthday goes. My mom especially wanted to spend this one for me. We'll do what we usually do and celebrate the weekend after." I tell him which he nods reluctantly to. Waving goodbye, I walk out to the parking lot to my car. Pulling open the door, I toss my bag inside and slump into the driver's seat. The sudden toll of everything hits me as I rub my right shoulder that was ridged.

"So, your birthday is October 31?" A smooth accent voice asks.

Yelping, I spin in my seat as I wildly look into the eyes of my...whatever.

"What the--jasper!" I hold a hand to my fast beating heart

He smirks and leans forward. Placing his hand over mine, he pulls it down and slowly entangle our fingers.

"Sorry about that." His sincere smile makes me melt and I return the light squeeze of his hand.

"So, your birthday?"

Author: sorry it's so short! Next chapter will be a direct continuation after this. We are finally gonna hit some major drama ahead! Enjoy the light flirting going on!
