Author: sorry about missing my deadline. For those that follow me, I planned to have this sooner but work was kicking my butt this week.
His hand is cold.
His breath is sweet.
His hair is as soft as silk.
It's been a day since I found him again.
He had a hotel room that he got when he arrived to town a week ago. The last six days he spent deciding whether to show himself to me. Six days to decide to forgo the decision he made to instead live as much of a human life as he can with me.
So there we were. Laying down on his king size bed, the white sheets and comforter surround us. I was wearing a white shirt of his, my face bare after he helped clean my face after I cried that night he came back.
The sun was setting, warm golden rays make the room feel warm. The white of the blankets were golden, reminding me of the sky outside as the clouds turn colors. All was quiet as we laid there. I across his chest as one hand continuously runs through the ends of my hair. The other holds my hand as he runs a thumb over my knuckles.
It was a comfortable silence. A silence filled with the feeling of being whole. A silence of comfort not felt for a long time. It was a silence that allowed me to truly relax as muscles that have been tense since he left finally released. Despite all the worries we had about the future. The worries that separated us before. It didn't matter at the moment as we sit in silence.
Yet as the suns begins to sink over the horizon. I let out a sigh, as I look up into the eyes that made me think of cliche high school romances. Knowing I will have to eventually pop the bubble we were in.
"I wish...I could become like you." I let out quietly. He let's out a breath as he brings up the hand that was playing with my hair. Its coolness on my cheek as he cups it.
"But you can never agree to an eternity of blood."
It pains me as I look into his eyes, as the problems we are facing now rise again. The same problems that prompted him to leave in the first place.
"I wish I could make the decision like Bella, but the idea of not being human. To not grow old, to not continue my family, to kill to survive. I...I can't do it." I let out as I bring a hand to cover his that rests on my face. "But I also can't live without you. We can't live without each other." He told me of his time away. The pain that tore him nearly in two, barely able to close his eyes without the thought of me. It was the same pain I went through without him.
"I can't live without you either." He leans forward and presses his lips lightly to my own. Pulling away, his golden eyes search mine. "I just wish I can give you a human life. That I can put a ring on that finger, but to also sleep at night with you with dreams of the future. To have a big house to fill with children. To grow old and watch our family expand. To be able to hold your hand every day until our last breath."
Looking into my eyes, his eyes look wet as he stares into my own.
"I love you so much, that I wish I was human. That I could have warm fingers to touch your face with. A human heart that will race every time I see you smile. A human life, if I could move fates and be born again. I would wish to only be able to be human. To be human with you."
Breathing in, his words wash over me as I suddenly feel dizzy. The realization that this man who is so frustrated, so flustered because of the depth of love he feels for me. Looking into his eyes, I feel a sudden surge of electricity flow through me. The hair on my arms race, the air feels like its moving, as a familiar tingling starts at my fingertips.
Breathing fast, I look around worried as Jasper sits us up. Using both hands, he tries to turn my face back to his as he feels the sudden change in the air.
"El! El? Look at me. Tell me what's wrong. El?!" His tone has me snapping my eyes to his as he looks at me. He looks panicked as an inner glow lights up my skin. Lighting up the room even, it was as if the sun that sunk below the horizon was now under my skin. Lighting up the darken room as the air around us rushes lightly. A humming takes up my ears as I slowly raise my now golden hand to Jaspers face.
Suddenly the humming becomes a whispers of his wish. Whispers sound, repeating the same phrase as we stare at each other.
I wish to become human.
The volume raises as my hand inches closer to his face. Moving almost with a mind of it's own as I am filled with confusion to my actions. Following the movement, I swallow as I look back to Jasper's golden eyes. Feeling assured about the moment, I nod lightly at him as I whisper.
"Itll be okay."
With that, I lay my hand on his cheek as light surrounds us both in a blinding array of gold before it all goes dark.
Like wind to a candle, the once golden glow was replaced with black. As two bodies fall into the others arms like two drops of water merging.
...
The first thing I notice when I became aware, was the feeling of laying on a hard surface. And suddenly, behind my closed lids came a slow growing light.
I want to open my eyes. To see where I was, but a weight kept them shut. It was as if I was stuck in the moment one becomes awake with their eyes kept closed after someone turns on a light to gently wake the sleeper. An action my mother would use before she would softly call out my name. I thought perhaps that all that happened was dream. Seeing Jasper, the club, and the action of my powers. Perhaps I was sleep in my dorm, and all I have to wait for is the sound of my alarm.
That is until the humming began. The sams whispers as before, the same tingle in the air that raises the small hairs on my arms as the soft tune begins. It was slow at first. Then slowly grew louder as voices began to join. Then slowly merge until they became one loud sound, that if I was able to, I would cover my ears at the sound.
When suddenly it stopped, and a warm hand was gripping my shoulder lightly as a voice I have not heard in many years call out.
"Eleanor, it's time to wake up."
Opening my eyes, I see a familiar set looking into my own. Eyes that I inherited, eyes I have not seen in my years.
"Dad?"
