Classes dragged on, and with the encounter with Jasper in the cafeteria, concentration of any kind put towards class was no where to be found. So when the final bell rang, I was thankful to finally pack up and leave. Trudging through the overcrowded hallway I make my way out the door. Sighing, I threw my bag in the trunk and leaned against the side as I stared back up to the sky that was covered in grey clouds. Watching the shapes form and drift silently, my mind wanders once again and I'm caught up in thoughts of golden eyes and delicious southern accents. At least until the shrill of my phone goes off in my pocket do I break out and go to pull it out. The word mom flashes and I hit the answer button as I go back to leaning against the car. My eyes wandering the crowded parking lot.
"What's up mom?" I murmur into the phone, watching the Cullens leave out the schools front door. They seem to be in their own world...
"Why do you assume I need something of you if I call?" My mother's disgruntled voice drifts through the phones speaker. I just let out a chuckle as my eyes still linger on a golden haired one.
"I'm not assuming you wanted something mom, it's what the kids say ,you know. It's another way of saying how's your day going" I explain as he speaks with his family and I see a grin break out on his face. Just the sight alone made my heart beat race and I feel a stuttered breath escape my lips. Seeming to hear me, his eyes turn swiftly to mine and there's it is again, an unknown emotion there lingering in the swirls of molten gold.
"Yes, I know. Just teasing you sweety, anyway, have you heard about our new neighbors? Teresa just called me, her daughter Jessica called her about them this morning. Of course then she of course called everyone, and I unfortunately am on that list. Since when did we get neighbors and how did I not know?" My mom murmurs to me through her phone as I hear the clacking sounds of her typing away. I just roll my eyes at that and turn to fiddle with my bag strap. Of course Jessica would call her mom. Her family are the biggest gossipers in Willow, she makes Eliza and her wealth of knowledge look insignificant. Looking back over my shoulder, I see that he's still watching me with an amused smile as the tall Auburn haired one seems to be speaking to him. Once again I find my pulse inexplicably begin to race at the sight, it was starting to irritate the affect he had over me.
"Man, that smile is killing me. How can you be attractive smirking. It's like a cliche to be able to be more attractive doing that... oh. My. I forgot I was on the phone..." I trail off as my thoughts are spoken aloud. Looking away from him to the phone in my hand as I realized I can hear her cracking up on the other line. The fact she heard me causes blood to instantly rush to my cheeks. Turning to look back at him, I see him laughing with his family. He once again makes eye contact with me and winks as he turns to hop in the car. Sitting in stunned silence with that faint voice coming from the speaker of my mother, I can't help but wonder if by that wink means that he heard me. But that wouldn't be possible, not with how far away he was.
...
"So, who's this boy that's got you talking crazy?" My mom questions as she stands in the kitchen once I enter through the door that leads in from the garage. Tossing my bag on chair next to the door, I slump over the counter and take the glass of iced tea she was pouring. Taking a long sip while also trying to formulate a reasonable response.
"Uhhh you know that family that moved in?" I look down to my hands when asking this. Fiddling with the gold ring in the shape of a bow, sliding it up and down my finger. It was a ring my father got me before he passed away 6 years ago.
"Yes..." she trails off in a tone that has me looking back up to her. She has her arms crossed as she raises one brown eyebrow. My mother's hair is a darker shade of brown, but she's pretty much an exact copy of me but 20 years older. With unreasonably pale skin, which has much to do with living in a state with constant cloud cover, we both stand at 5'5". We both have willowy frames although my mother slightly more filled out than I am. The only evidence of my dad is my eyes, Hazel eyes with flecks of red and gold.
Clearing my throat, I take another sip and look back at her, "well he and his siblings all go to my school..." I trail off, trying not to reveal too much information to my overbearing mother.
"Siblings huh? So what's their names? Especially the one who you talked about?" She gets right to the point and leans onto the counter and I can just tell that I won't be free of this conversation.
"I can't remember who each one is other than the two that I met." For the life of me, the names of his siblings left me mind despite already being told their names as it was whispered about all throughout the lunch room. "Alice I met when she stopped by the store the other day, the one who liked the line I chose. The other is Jasper, I've ran into him a few times..." I trail off and hope that was the end of that.
"Jasper must be the one you as I quote thought 'that smile is killing me,' oh and can't forget the best line, 'its like a cliche to be able to be more attractive doing that.' Oh those were great, just makes me want to meet this boy that has finally caught my dear Eleanor's attentions." My mother smirks as she finally turns away and starts to pull out ingredients for dinner.
"I never said he caught 'my attentions'" I mutter as I stand up and help prepare dinner. My mother just laughs as she hip-checks me.
Author: Little funny filler chapter. I needed to bridge out between situations, so I thought to develop more on the mother-daughter relationship and finally get around to describing Eleanor for you all. Hope you enjoy it and got a chuckle out of it!
