The Plummet

There isn't a sound

As I walk across the marble.

The white walls and floors are nearly blinding.

I don't know why,

But it's peaceful,

A sense of joy is in the air.

As I continue walking closer to the light source,

I begin to make out golden gates.

Someone stands inside them,

Waiting for my arrival.

I recognize my cousin and rush forward.

How is it possible?

Could I be...

No it's not possible.

I open my mouth to speak,

But the marble around me starts to turn black.

I look at my cousin with wide eyes,

What's happening?

He looks sad,

Almost pitiful.

The floors start disintegrating below my feet.

I cry out and reach for his hand.

He pulls me into a hug,

But the gates separate us.

He lets go of me,

Telling me he's sorry.

Tears steam down my face as the floor gives way.

I plummet into darkness,

The white light behind the gates fading away.

Soon to be replaced

By the glow of a fire beneath me.
