Jody was so engrossed in the book that she didn't notice the window blow open or the small orb of light darting around the room.

I wonder what a Neverbird looks like  muttered Jody aloud

It's a beautiful white bird and it's very wise.

Jody jumped and looked up in fright. Sitting on the window sill was a boy. Unmistakable in his green outfit made entirely of leaves woven together.

Peter Pan breathed Jody in surprise and rubbed her eyes wondering if she was seeing things

That's right. I'm Peter pan and this is Tink

For the first time Jody noticed the bright orb of light which came to rest on his open palm. Jody looked closely and saw the fairy. Tink stood with her arms folded scowling at Jody.

But your not real. Fairies aren't real protested Jody

I'm just as real as you replied Peter indignantly and so is Tink

I don't believe you. I must be dreaming replied Jody

She drew the bed cover over her and shut her eyes tight. After a few moments of silence she opened her eyes and pulled back the covers but the boy was still sitting on the window sill.

Come with me and I can show you a Neverbird and Mermaids and Pirates

I don't know replied Jody

It's got to be more fun than this place. I've been watching those grown ups downstairs for ages and their no fun at all exclaimed Peter  Come with me and we can have an adventure!

Suddenly Jody heard raised voices downstairs. It was Kingsley arguing with his mum. A door slammed and it was quiet again.

You're right. Let's go

She climbed out of bed and rushed eagerly to the window.

Peter blew some dust from his hand and it sparkled as it settled all over Jody's clothes.

Take my hand. Tink will guide the way. Second star to the right and straight on till morning.

Suddenly they were flying through the night sky, rushing through the cold night air,  fresh and crisp as if freshly washed for the morning.  The stars twinkling as they watched over the two children as they sped through the night, flying over roof tops, passed church spires and tower blocks. Jody felt her eyelids getting heavy. She wanted to stay awake to see the sights below but she soon she couldn't fight it. As Jody slept Peter guided her onwards, soon they had left the towns and cityscapes behind and were flying over fields, forests and then on across a vast blue ocean.
